How do you like the Bryan Bresee pick?

I agree with the most of the other posters here when it comes to Simms. He’s not very informed, tends to talk out of his a** and just because he says something good that might make me temporarily feel good about something that concerns the Saints. In fact I think it makes me feel worse that Simms likes it. Again, haven’t and won’t watch it. Not giving him the clicks but thanks.
I don't have the same take. As football talking heads go, I find him to be pretty thorough, honest, willing to put in the work, and when necessary, put himself out on a limb. In years past, lots of Saints fans whined about his lower-than-normal ranking of Drew Brees and Michael Thomas, but ignored his unfettered praise of Sean Payton. He just speaks his mind, and some people (predictably) can't handle it.

I found his take on Bresee to be helpful and insightful. But to each his own.

You clearly don't like the pick. That's fine.

Let's talk about the 31% missed tackle stat from "Belly Up Sports" (whoever that is).

The PFF Draft Profile for Bresee clearly states "Bresee had a key missed tackle in this game that cost Clemson 17 yards. Having said that, he doesn't miss many tackles, as he only has four missed tackles in his entire career at Clemson."
There is no date on the article, but it clearly states if is after the season, so those 4 missed tackles would encompass his whole career.

Belly Up Sports indicates the stats on their profile are from PFF and shows he has 5 missed tackles in 2022 alone.
There is a disconnect somewhere.

Maybe PFF has it wrong in their draft profile.

Or maybe it is Uriel "Yuke" Klein... the Die-hard Ravens + Lakers fan, wild sports fan to the core who believes LeBron > MJ, who will debate any topic with anyone and encourages us to "come at him."
I saw 2 missed tackles in the TN game alone. Having only 4 or 5 in a season just doesn’t jive. But when you only make 15 total tackles and miss 5 that might explain it too. 300 snaps, 15 tackles and 5 missed tackles.

If Simms is the one talking head you’re basing your positive feeling on the pick on you might be reaching. Finding there’s a lot of dislike and like but not very much in between on him. I hope he pans out but nothing I’ve seen or read gives me high hopes. Love the rest of the draft. This is the one pick I don’t like. I’m willing to go out on a limb and say Keanu Benton will have a far better career than Breese. You can quote me on that and in 3 years let me know how wrong I was or wasn’t.

Is Benton the one your sources told you the Saints were targeting? Either way, the Saints aren’t the only ones who were higher on Bresee. McGinn’s scouts and personnel rated him the second best IDL behind Carter and ahead of Benton, who is seen as more of a 3-4 IDL.
I’m curious. Those that know more about Breese, what do you make of his lack of production and downward trend in stats (I understand the injuries and personal issues) looking at his breakdown (if I missed something or got numbers wrong I apologize)

20/21 12 GP 10 GS 23 TT 13 Solo 6.5 TFL 4 Sacks
21/22 4 GP 4 GS 12 TT 5 Solo 3 TFL
1.5 Sacks
22/23 10 GP 7 GS 15 TT 9 Solo 5.5 TFL 3.5 Sacks

Defensive snap counts

GT 36 of 54
FUR 37 of 50
WF 50 of 75
FSU 22 of 80
SYR 33 of 72
ND 41 of 63
LOU 40 of 69
USC 15 of 69
UNC 28 of 73
TEN 28 of 69

So most snaps in a game was 50. That game he had 2 Solo tackles and no sacks. He had 1 sack against each Syracuse, Louisville and Tennessee and a 1/2 sack against Georgia Tech. Most solo tackes in a game was 2 (4 times) and his most active game was GT with 4 total tackles with 1 being a solo. Florida State and SC he was held off the stat sheet. Against Syracuse and Notre Dame he has only 1 solo tackle and against NC had one assisted tackle. He played 330 of 604 total defensive snaps, about 55%. Why what seems to be a decreased snap count the later the season went on? I lost a sister, so I understand what he was going through was not easy, I don’t want to bring that into question. I don’t really watch Clemson football and I understand the box score doesn’t show everything but I’m not too excited by what I do see.
you say you understand his personal issues and his illness. But the things youre questioning, like snap count trajectory, are directly correlated to the illness and recovery.

He was pumped full of so many IV fluids he gained over 30 pounds in water weight. His kidney was close to failure. Yes, his conditioning suffered. Anyone’s would. He played much better in the ACCCG when he was closer to fully recovered.

I haven't read most of this thread, so I'm not aware of your take on the pick. With large threads I haven't read, I usually just click on the last page or two. So I saw your post on the last page and was just responding to it in a vaccuum.

Coming into last college football season, before the kidney infection and loss of his sister, Bresee was almost unanimously mocked in the top 10. As a DT. Even only about a year removed from his ACL, a whole lot of people thought he was a really special player and thought of him as a really high draft pick.

If you wanna go into this with a negative framework, you're gonna come out assuming negative results. I understand there are a lot of question marks with him, but other than the ACL I don't buy much into them. We'll know a lot more as the season gets closer but I'm looking forward to seeing Bresee in our starting lineup.

We get it... Simms is an idiot who knows nothing.

But Yuke the wild sports fan to the core... you're all in on that guy.

... it all make sense now... I remember that thread...

This seems like it's personal for you at this point. I know your sources indicated that the Saints were high on Keeanu Benton but apparently the Saints were higher on Bresee. Every year we see people champion a certain prospect and then get mad when the Saints don't pick their guy. Then it becomes this weird grudge match where Saints fans seem to be actively rooting against the actual pick in an effort to prove themselves right about their guy.

Keeanu Benton is the new Chase Claypool. Benton might have a great career and Bresee might be a total failure, there's just no way to know. But dogging out a prospect the Saints picked just because you liked some other dude doesn't seem right. Why make bold predictions that some guy who plays for the Steelers is going to have a better career than the guy who plays for the Saints? I've never understood that. Even if we cared enough to quote you on this and you turned out to be right, what do you stand to gain?

Anyway, you talk about Benton like he was a can't miss blue chip prospect that the Saints were foolish to pass up. What am I missing? Bresee has been projected to go in the 1st round all offseason and a lot of experts had him as the #2 DT. Benton on the other hand has been a 2nd or 3rd round projection ranked outside of the top 5.

I lucked out. My guy got picked in the 6th round (about three rounds lower than I thought he'd be picked).

I would have been equally happy with Miles Murphy (29) and Keeanu Benton (40). But Murphy went before our pick, so it played out reasonably well with Bresee and Foskey.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if those were the picks the Saints had in mind and it changed because Murphy got sniped from us.

See this right here is what it's all about. Admitting that it's all just good fun and we know next to nothing about what's really going on. It's just something to do in the offseason. It's not that big of a deal. But Youtube has everyone thinking they are Gil Brandt now lol.

Hey I didn't get every player I wanted the Saints to pick either. I wanted Mazi Smith, Siaki Ika or Benton for our picks at 29 and 40. But it didn't pan out that way, But I'm not on here whining and complaining and trying to justify why my pick would have been better that the Saints brain trust picks. I'm sure they did their homework on Bresee and didn't just pick him willy nilly. To tell you the truth, the only reason I was scared off by Bresee was the injury issue. He's almost 2 years removed from the ACL and has had no more issues with it. from what I saw of him at the combine, he looked good. He was a top 10 selection that fell into our lap at 29. What a great value pick that was. I really like the pick. This guy is going to be a beast. I can't wait for training camp and preseason to get a good look at Bresee.

I almost posted the exact same thing early today.

And instead of feeling like we got a guy with an extremely high ceiling at DT and a guy I think will be very solid at DE … I would feel like we got a guy with an extremely high ceiling at DE and a guy I think will be very solid at DT.

He’s either going to be Cam Jordan or a complete wash out in 4 years. I obviously hoping for the former.

I watched ton of his vids after we drafted him. A lot of it was him playing strong side DE, taking on doubles, and setting the edge…. With some flashes at the 3 tech. I can see him being used just like Cam. Question is…. Will he be another Cam?

How he was used in college and how he’s used in the pro can vary greatly.
