Microsoft Paid The NFL $400 Million To Use Its Tablets, But Announcers Are Calling Them iPads

We have a half dozen of the surface pro 3 at work & I must say they are good for streaming. I still prefer a mac for professional creative work, but have been impressed by the Surface, except for the optional keyboard/mouse pad, which is awful.

When I worked at Best Buy, a vast majority of people called every mp3 player an iPod. You'd be amazed how many people refer to smartphones as a whole as iPhones. Someone not well-versed in technology will make the mistake and not even realize it. That's just what it is to them.

That said, it's pretty funny. For that much money, you'd think some sort of memo would be out there.
it's that way throughout... just look at the ice resurfacing machine most popular at hockey rinks

Zamboni is a brand name... not the actual name of the machine

Case in point. I didn't know that. :9:

Um, I called a Samsung Galaxy an iphone last weekend. Oops.

"Surface" seems like a rather lame name. Remember the zune? Microsoft needs to come up with some more catchy names IMHO. Still, this is indeed like confusing Pepsi with Coke. :nono:

Still have one. They last forever and are awesome. It's too bad they discontinued them.

Cant believe there's no contract signed by the league in addition to the devices requiring their name to be "dropped" in conversation by league broadcasters. Once those tablets are in their Otterboxes you cant tell by just looking at them.

For the amount of cash they ponied up, there really should be. Microsoft kinda screwed this up (not that that's a shock or anything).

On a side note, I really hate the eye searing blue they're using for these. It seems really out of place in the stadiums I saw it in last week. It also has small Microsoft logos on it, which I find even more annoying, because it makes the blue look like it's supposed to fit in with the surroundings. I would have much rather looked at black with large Microsoft logos for the next five years. :covri:

Given the size difference, I'm surprised you didn't call it an iPad.

The solution should have been simple. Give each broadcast team a Surface, and tell them they get $50 every time they can mention the "Microsoft Surface" during the broadcast, up to a maximum of $400 for the first quarter of the season. The Surface gets its exposure, the NFL gets its money, and the broadcasters get their education, with a little spending money on the side.

Of course, that would be a week's paycheck for me, I'm an iPad guy, and I wouldn't know a Surface if I saw one. That's all beside the point, though. Microsoft didn't bungle this. The NFL did........ Again.

Reminds me of how people (for the longest time) referred to any handheld gaming device as a Gameboy. Many still do even though the Gameboy hasn't been around for years.
