Minecraft (2 Viewers)

for the record, i have never owned a camaro either...or firebird

I am considering buying this game for my 8 year old son. I was wondering if there are any offline versions available and if so is it worth it playing offline? I only worry about him being so young and having to deal with others in the online world who can be complete DB's...(pervs and vulgar punks...etc) He wants to recreate an angry birds type sim in minecraft. The boy loves to create and I want to enhance that ability but I'm concerned about online behavior so my question is obviously two fold. Is there an offline? And if not how can assure that nothing goes wrong with him while he is online?

you can play offline

i guess you can't be too careful but i honestly don't think anyone playing Minecraft is going to be a problem

i think your cousin finally let justin play it on the xbox/live.

It is. At first I hated it, but it really grows on you to the point of an obsession. I'm sure Mongoose could wax poetic on this better than me, but I think it hits somewhere at the core of being human. It takes us down to the basics of survival, building and destroying. All that is missing for our basic monkey brain is reproducing.

That is a problem. I find myself thinking about my constructs during the day. I will say this though. It is the only game my wife has been willing to watch me play. Her back seat driving can be annoying, but it is awesome at the same time. I play in survival mode so your comments are especially relevant. You have to plan and execute risks to move forward with your mining. The lighting is great and really adds to your sense of discovery. I still haven't found any diamonds yet. And perhaps I am too careful, but I have yet to hit bedrock. But I think I'm close. Those ender dudes are appearing pretty often.

Once you hit bedrock, mine between 6 and 12 blocks above it and you should find more diamonds.

I like Y7 for diamonds. Seems to be less lava.

I think it's Y7. Haven't played in a long time.

It's in that range. Around Y5 to Y12, but you are right, there is more lava up higher, but the diamonds often seem to be near the lava. I think I tended to find the sweet spot to be between Y7 and Y10.
