Mock Draft [Simulators] Compilation Thread - 2024 NFL Draft (1 Viewer)

I believe that the new staff is gonna be fairly impressed w/the athleticism & untapped potential of Nick Saldiveri & dare is say Penning. As glaring a need as OL appears to be, we do have guys in house who have the potential to be developed into starters. Im pretty sure we'll be drafting an OLman or 2, but im not convinced we’ll be doing that in the 1st, or even in the 2nd. This draft is unnaturally loaded at OL. Plus, there’s theres OLmen in FA who i think we’ll target. I did this mock w/that in mind.

wanted to try again and pick up a player I think fits really well with the Saints in a position I think is a need, RB Estime.

JD @49? Most coaches would be fired if they allowed him to drop that far!

Personally, I don’t see DA taking a QB this year. He knows he is on short leash and need to win now, doesn’t have the luxury to plan 2-3 years down the road!
I tend to agree with this line of thinking. But if I can play devil's advocate, here's a scenario where I can see us drafting a QB:

What if DC4 is injured for an undetermined number of games this season, to the point he can't play? I hesitate to say that out loud, because he's been pretty durable over his career, but we were dangerously close to that scenario 2x in 2023! JW2 is an excellent backup QB and possibly a starter in the right situation (not in NO though, IMO). However, I don't think DA is a JW2 fan even in the slightest, and I think JW2 knows it...which was a strong contributing element to the season-ending "mutiny" with Atlanta...JW2 is out of here, and he knows it. I think Haener was drafted specifically with intention of displacing JW2 as the backup QB. But that was in the CSP/PC offense. We've got a Kubiak now, and I think Haener has elements in his game that Purdy does....but WHAT IF Kubiak doesn't see it that way. We don't KNOW what Kubiak prefers in a QB, because we have no evidence of Kubiak-input on QB draftees. But let's say it is NOT Haener (theoretical argument). Let's say that Kubiak thinks that a Nix, Penix, McCarthy, or a Rattler is just the right lump of clay to mold for that Shanahan/Kubiak system. And let's say that guy is available (certainly in the 1st, possibly in the 2nd, and Rattler perhaps even later) and is CLEARLY the BPA on the board. How do you NOT take that guy?

And it might be prudent to take him as insurance against a DC4 injury?! Let's not forget that's how Mahomes ascended in KC. He sat behind Alex Smith for the first 12-14 games of his rookie season before getting his 1st start, and then never relinquishing the job. Let's not wish for that scenario, because that's just bad karma....but it would be quite short-sighted to purposefully AVOID that selection. Especially if its a guy Kubiak LIKES and WANTS.

So I tend to agree that QB isn't on our short list of draft needs, but we're not going to fill that backup QB role in a meaningful way through FA, and if the right guy falls into our laps as the BPA, it could happen. Kubiak is the wild card that would enable that situation. If PC was still here, I'd say "no way they draft a QB" in 2024. But with Kubiak as the new OC, I can see a scenario where a QB is taken, even if it's not DAs preference. JMO...

I hope he picks JD if he is available! I’m not a big fan of DA as a head coach, and I’m ok with us being mediocre for another year as long as we got a stud QB waiting to take over in a year or two. Get a new coach, that new young QB, now let’s get to work!

IMO Penix would be a great fit in Kubiak’s offense. He’s very poised in the pocket, has great touch on short routes, very accurate on deep throws, not a runner but moves in the pocket very well and can get some yards with his legs.

I don’t think we’ll have a shot at JD, but Penix and Maye could fall to 14 if we stay there.

You can pull off that trade in a mock draft simulator, not in real life.

The best real life comparison is when the Saints gave up #27, #147 and a future first for #14. You're not getting close to #36, #40 and a future first. You can get #36 and #40 plus a throwaway swap of late picks.
