RD1. Went w/Mike Green because i firmly believe that this dude’s gonna fly up boards as the process plays out. I think it’s pretty close, but he’s the next best pass rusher after Abdul Carter. Green’s like a more explosive & powerful version of Laiatu Latu from last year’s draft. His film shines w/an array of rush moves, counters, speed to power, & relentless effort. He had 32 pressures & 10 QB hits on the year. What’s more, is Green’s a true finisher. On top of the pressure stats, he finished w/23 TFLs & 17 sacks. Mike Green’s a legit EDGE zombie & when it's all said & done i think he’ll end up being a top 10 prospect. Dudes like Mike Green, w/that production & athletic make up rocket up boards. Wait till the combine…
Watch this rep vs Josh Conerly, the top 25 OT prospect from OR.
RD2. Went w/arguably the best ballhawk available in this 25 draft. He’s a force vs the run & a QB’s worst nightmare vs the pass. He plays all over, lining up at the STAR, strong, & free. Straight up, Watts is a better, more athletic version of Ceedy Duce. We’re thirsty for playmakers on D & i tried to solve that w/Green & Watts.
RD3. Dont know if Grey Zabel lasts this long, but he was here & didnt hesitate to take him. Zabel is a powerful twitched up OL who has the potential to solve either our OT position opposite Fuaga, or our issue at OG. The dude dominated the Senior Bowl practices.
RD3. Jack Bech does exactly what we’ve been missing on O since Mike T got hurt in 2020. Love this dude’s game! He catches EVERYTHING in his radius. On top of being a 50/50 ball contested catch specialist, Bech has the speed & athleticism to get deep & make plays after the catch. But what i like most about Bech is how he plays w/anger & contempt for the other team. HE REMIND ME OF MIKE T. In my opinion, Bech has WR1 potential & i think his best football will be in the pros.
RD4. Another guy im not sure will be available this late, but TY Robinson is quietly one of the most versatile DTs in the draft. He’s a power based (crazy power!) combo DT who can play as both a 3tech inside pass rusher, & a run stopping pocket pushing zero/NT. On top of being a true force against the run, I think a guy like Robinson would be a godsend to Bryan Bresee. W/Robinson next to him, we could unleash Bresee to do what he naturally does best. I think those dudes could/would level each others games up immensely.
RD4. Lequint Allen is one of my favorite players in this draft. This dude is one of my draft darling. He’s a one cut runner w/a combination of power & short area quickness. He may not be the fastest dude, but he has enough of a 2nd gear to accelerate through running lanes & get loose for extra yards. Lequint’s running style is based on contact balance & slipping out of tackles. Unlike conventional tackle breakers, Lequint’s slippery, gets skinny on contact, keeps churning his legs & spins out of & off of would be tacklers vs running over defenders, or powering through them. It’s different, lol! He’s also one of the top receivers at the position. In my opinion, Lequint Allen’s the 2nd best receiving RB after Ashton Jeanty. Despite his WR build, Lequint’s pretty thuggish & has 3 down back potential. Would love to see him paired w/AK.
RD6. Took UCLA TE Moliki Matavao as a high ceiling TE2/1. This dude is BIG, measuring in at 6’5 265. He’s a developmental prospect who needs refinement as a blocker, but has the ability as a pass catcher to be an immediate contributor in the passing game. W/his size & ability as a receiver, Matavao could end up being a hidden gem.
RD7. Added another run down specialist w/Iowa NT Yaya Black. Black has a good bullrush, but needs development as a pass rusher. He’ll Make his money vs the run & in short yardage situations. We need guys like Black to free up Bresee & to improve the run D.
RD7. In my opinion, Maxen Hook is a better, more instinctive version of Jordan Howden. He played both S positions at Toledo & can also play the slot. I think Hook would be a core ST player out the gate. Plus, Hook would provide excellent depth at the position w/starting S upside. Maxen Hook reminds me a lot of LAC S Alohi Gilman.
No doubt!NFL.com Mock has T. McMillan falling to us at 9.
That would be hitting the jackpot for the Saints...
At 2-7 with a team riddled with injuries and an interim HC after the DA firing, it's time to fire up the simulators. The addition of 2 picks in the top 4 rounds and our own picks being higher in the rounds, this should be a draft where we can address a few areas of need through BPA. We aren't an old team like some like to say, we just have a few older players skewing the overall average age. With those players, we were 16th oldest in the league when the season started. Latt has been dealt while Cam and DD look to be in their last season. A few changes, and some good additions from the draft could make the rebuild interesting while we climb out of cap hell.
The draft is how that is done. We have LT and RT locked down, as we can pencil Fuaga and Penning in. On defense, Bresee, Werner, Gay, Taylor and Kool-Aid can all be penciled in as well. Turner has actually showed hustle, being on a rookie deal and young, he's keepable for now. Shaheed is a RFA, Olave is a concussion waiting to happen and Means is a TBD with potential, so WR can and should be addressed. TE is wide open. KM showed flashes before his hammy took him out, again. AK is AK and more than likely here for the duration of his career. Carr's contract might keep him in place, but who knows. Since DA is gone, maybe he's gone too, but if he's held to the same standard as the other players, they may view him different. Rattler and Haener are still young and on rookie deals, they are TBD, but more than likely not the future at QB. All in all, BPA could be at nearly any position on the roster.
Let the fun begin.
