[Mod Edit] Jon Gruden could be a name to watch for upcoming Head Coach openings per Tom Pelissero (3 Viewers)

Take away winning a Super Bowl with a team Tony Dungy built and Gruden has done nothing as a HC to warrant his cult following among Saints fans.

Vrabel and Flores both have better career w/l records, don’t have multiple DUIs (like Gruden) and neither are idiotic enough to use their company email to share racist and bigoted statements.

Yet, some fans would crawl through glass to take Gruden over either of those guys. It’s funny to see.

Listening to Press Coverage this morning driving back to FL fro MS, they were discussing the Jets and the Giants. The big they was the Jets needing a culture change and that Vrabel would do just that and that went on to there might be a shift in which guys are being looked at for HC jobs. They said it seems teams are looking at these Alpha HCs with experience and potentially not these young OCs who keep their jeads buried in the play sheets.

They also discussed Gruden and that he would have to acknowledge and have a plan that he's not a good personnel evaluation guy. He would need to listen to his personnel guys and if he gets interviews, he would have to have a plan to present the teams.

If we are looking for a culture change, it might be an Alpha HC and not a young guy getting his first shot.

Look at Vrabel and Gruden as options for us.

In that instance, you can say Bill Callahan got to the same Super Bowl with the Raiders team that Gruden built. His coaching helped his new team to defeat his old team.

He was 8-8 his first two years in Oakland. He was a very good coach for the next 3 years (2000-2002) and never had consistent success after that. In fact, since then he only had 3 winning seasons and two of those were consecutive, middling 9-7 campaigns.

He hasn’t been consistently successful or in any way innovative since that stretch in the early 2000s, i.e. over 20 years ago. His offenses don’t score a lot, he has never developed a QB to elite/franchise status . . .

If hired he’s more likely to be Ditka in New Orleans than anywhere close to Parcells in Dallas.
