More data on Staley's departure from the Chargers (60 Viewers)

He did do it at times. He even did it during the Superbowl when he yelled at Mike Bell about his lack of cleats.

I knew this would be the example, but that does not make him an "in your face" coach. He's no Bob Knight

I mean, I guess I could go look for other examples if you really want but I think that's a pretty good example that he will get in a players face from time to time, but I used this as an example because it's pretty clear evidence of that.

Payton was certainly know as a guy that would get on a guy for making a mistake whether you want to call it an "in your face coach" or not. He wasn't a guy that would get red in the face like Rizzi and explode, but you could see him on the sideline barking at players, coaches, and refs from time to time.

he failed as a HC

"Failed" is a bit harsh... he failed to win a super bowl but a .500 record and a playoff appearance isn't necessarily a failure IMHO. Dennis Allen on the other hand...

Let's all hope he can put a respectable (hopefully dominant) defense on the field. It might take a year or 2 because he doesn't have the pieces.

Not that you are necessarily, but I think it's unfair to compare Staley to DA. Staley had two winning seasons, including a playoff appearance, and got fired during his 3rd year when they were 5-9. He finished there with a .500 record at 24-24 and his worst season, that he was fired before completing, had more wins than DA would EVER get in Oakland. His Raiders never won more than 4 games in a season and he finished there with a .222 record at 8-28.

.500 isn't good enough and perhaps he should have been fired because of some behind the scenes stuff. Maybe he wasn't ready for the HC job and maybe he never will be. The stuff from that article is really mixed. Some players thought he was very supportive and others didn't. Maybe his flaw is that he didn't learn what everybody needed. Rather than blame the team, he gave them some cliches (very DA like I suppose) when they wanted answers.

But Staley wasn't DA levels of bad. Jonathan Gannon, Raheem Morris, Zac Taylor, Kevin Stefanski, Todd Bowles and Brian Daboll still have NFL head coaching jobs with worse winning percentages than Staley. And all of them are far better than DA is even after inheriting the remnants for Sean Paytons team.

While Staley wasn't my first choice, I think he's going to be a HUGE asset to the team and CKM. Not just for what he did right with the Chargers, I think what he did wrong will also be super helpful.

Yeah, not sure why you read so deeply into that. A successful tenure as a head coach means he's likely still a head coach. Perhaps the word unsuccessful would have been more to your taste, regardless it wasn't meant other than the actual definition for failure

noun: failure
  1. 1.
    lack of success.
"an economic policy that is doomed to failure"

Payton won and he did not do that barking at players, his system worked, the guys loved playing for him because they had fun, Payton was not an in your face coach, he was a philosopher with a philosophy and the players listened.
Watch highlights of 2006 preseason. Heā€™s doing a great Parcells impression by ripping into all the players. Payton is definitely a barking kind of coach.

Moore does need to find an enforcer coach, but I don't think it's terrible that Staley isn't an butt crevasse. While he can't be the in your face coach for Moore, he can still help him not make the same mistakes he did. And this part of the quote above that Staley "was receptive to input from the team's leadership council and assistants" doesn't really seem like a bad thing.
You can't delegate respect.

What about when he went after...apologies, can't remember his name..but in 2006, went after a couple of the offensive linemen when they messed up....grabbed one by the jersey on tv.

Sarcasm right? If not, wow! šŸ˜‚
