Funny how we each defined what a kids movie is differently. I was thinking more like pre-puberty.

Lakeside Theater was my very first job. Those were the days.Last movie I saw at the Sena Mall in Metairie. Enemy Mine shoulda been a big-box-office classic SF film -- it is based on a classic SF novella, but was probably changed too much in the translation to film.
...
Speaking of the Sena Mall ... was thinking back on what the last movie playing at the Sena Mall was before it closed. My memory is that it was A Fish Called Wanda (1988). Sound right?
I'm 99% sure that the last movie to play at the Lakeside Theaters (on the opposite side of Veterans from Lakeside Mall) was The Saint (1997) with Val Kilmer.
Those were the days.
Thanks for posting...good infoGreat movie, some intense scenes for a six year old
Love the originalInvaders from Mars
it’s a remake of a 1953 film, but this time it was made in 1986. I never watched the 1953 version though. It’s one of the first films I ever saw as a kid that scared the bejeezus out of me. It’s one of those it’s so bad it’s good movies.
a funny fact about the movie: it won two Razzie awards in 1987 for worst supporting actress (I’m assuming it was the evil teacher), and worst visual effects lmao
my.sister did that once....... once....Of course ... how did the house skip over this one?
This got brought on because I saw that Explorers with Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix is on Prime Video and I am watching it right now
1) cool story bro in the sincere sense, not the online snarky senseA friend of mine went to college with Ethan Hawke; they both dropped out after one semester.. Hawke to film Dead Poets Society, my friend to become a priest.. true story
Also, this is what I have never been able to figure out- How could it be that River Phoenix died so young.. and yet that talentless hack Corey Feldman continues to roam the Earth ??

One of my intros to theatre discussions is about the similarities between actors and preachers- essentially that both have to make others believeJust to expound a little more, b/c it’s kinda crazy.. my friend , who was actually a high school classmate of mine in Florida, was this really talented actor; he and Hawke went to this really ‘prestigious’ drama school/conservatory up north called Carnegie Mellon.. around the time that Hawke got cast in Dead Poets, my friend was also cast in a movie with Nick Nolte, called Prince of Tides, as the son of Barbra Streisand.. he actually came back to the school ( i was still in high school) and told us about all this and we were real excited and proud of him.. then, sometime between then and went the cameras started rolling , a friend of his brought him to church, he had a sort of spiritual awakening, and gave up his fledgling acting career to go into the priesthood.. Then since he had dropped out of the movie, Streisand just plugged her real life son into the role, and that’s who would up being in Prince of Tides… my friend is still a priest 30 plus years later, and seems happy, so i guess it all worked out.
