New CBS mock draft has Saints selecting LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in 2025 (2 Viewers)

I hope we don't draft Nuss. I am just not impressed enough with him to see him being a top 15 starter in the NFL. I believe his ceiling is Derek Carr, so what's the point?

The way the team gets worse each week they will likely have a very high pick. Maybe they can roll that into several early picks.

Generally speaking, it's ridiculous how qbs are drafted now. I remember Anthony Richardson was maaayyybe a first round pick when he first declared, and then went top 5.

It seems to be the only position where the so-called experts say the right thing to do is reach when your team has a need. Just because you don't have a guy means one in the draft is a guy.

Most recent Bucs example, Mel Kiper gave them crap for taking Calijah Kancey instead of Will Levis. Will freaking Levis.

Athletism !!! Owners / GMs love them
Some reason they Forget the Youngs-Griffths-Vicks when drafting them....

I'm just passing along info, not saying im on board with it or not.. hopefully Rattlesnake will show out and negate the need for a QB in 2025.. but what i am saying is that im old enough to remember his dad Doug when he played for the Saints, and that if you live long enough- you will see some crazy, full circle ish, like the possibility of a son playing for the same team his dad did.. that said, id much rather have Arch in a couple years .

I assume that the CBS mock draft experts are expecting Nussmeier to become a great offensive lineman or defensive end.

He'd have even better numbers if Lacy didn't drop the ball so much.

I can tell who actually has watched him play and who hasn't.

Also, dude commenting on Nuss with his super bad take on JD5 gets an instant scroll, lol.

I have watched every game he has played in college. He's a good college QB. But he has a lot to work on. His accuracy is suspect. He doesn't move around well in the pocket or buy time and his ball placement is bad over the middle and on deep throws. He might make a leap at some point this year or in the off season but at this point he is not looking like a good NFL QB.

You’re right……70% completion percentage isn’t accurate and 160.7 efficiency rating isn’t efficient.
I was today years old when I learned this.

He's only played against one decent defense so far, South Carolina, and he struggled against South Carolina. Let's wait to crown him until he faces an even good defense. Being good against the USC, Nichols State, UCLA, and South Alabama defense doesn't really impress me.

And if all you had to do to evaluate QBs for the NFL was look at their completion percentage and efficiency rating, the draft would be easy. But we all know it doesn't work like that.

I disagree although I would love him to have another year in college. He can make every throw and some and is playing at an elite level so far. All you can go buy is a players tools and what he puts on tape just like Burrow and Daniels and anybody else. Well aware that it don’t guarantee success but he’s certainly worthy and has the tools and production so far for first round consideration. I bet people would jump up and immediately say Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart are 1st round QBs. While both have great athleticism Nuss is a better thrower and QB.

I wouldn't take Milroe or Dart in the first at this point either. Milroe is a great athlete but he has a long way to go to develop as a QB. At this point he can throw deep and run, but he needs to significantly develop in other areas before he should be a high pick. Though he probably will be because NFL teams get enamored with athleticism and end up taking those guys way too high. Dart is running that Kiffin offense that I don't think helps a player move to the NFL.

The only college QB that I think might be ready is Ewers and he's hurt so it's hard to know how he has developed. Milroe has impressed me with his development since last year, but he still has a lot of work to do.

Jalen Milroe is playing against South Carolina today and doing well against their defensive front.

ETA: Aaaaaaaa Gamecocks just got a safety.

Hold on now. You play who is in front of you. Yes, I’m big on pointing out performance against crappy teams. Hence, why I placed zero stock into us winning 4 of the last 5 games (Saints) last year.
However, he did play very well in the bowl game against Wisconsin last year, which was a dang good closely contested game. He has shown so far that he can lead us to tight victories if need be (USCe) this year as well. The guy is not afraid. I’m sure he will be up to the challenge. He’s going to have to show that he can overcome our defensive struggles, much like JD5 did. I have faith in him.

So you only believe that who you play matters if it fits your agenda? And Wisconsin's defense was only ranked 37th in total defense last year. Not exactly an NFL level defense he was playing there.

They won the tUSC game because the finally realized that Caden Durham is really good and South Carolina's QB got hurt. They also got the benefit of one bad call and one close call to win that game. Anyway, maybe he does develop but it takes more than being a good, tough guy with "moxie" to be a very good NFL QB.

I'm down for the following year's draft..

Look been saying it for a few years now. Idc about he hasn't done anything in college talk

If Rattler Haener Carr don't pan out..
Next year we might lose a lot of cornerstones that keep us mediocre.

You go for Arch Manning.

Peyton, eli and Archie will always be available to keep molding him at the pro level.

It’s all that we can go on bc there are games that must be won in there. Not every team will be a cupcake team. So he has played against three quality opponents so far, in his young career. He’s won two. So that’s more winning than losing. In regards to our team, last year and this year so far, we’ve lost more against quality opponents than we’ve won. No agenda, that’s just how it goes. One thing I won’t do, is excuse someone for only beating inferior opponents. Have to prove that when the stakes are a little higher, that I can be free of most doubt. Nuss will have to prove the same thing bc his sample size against quality teams are coming up. So, he’s doing what he needs to as of now. The rest is TBD
