Something similar also played out with Payton, correct? I remember waiting around for him because Green Bay was his first choice, but I can't recall how many other positions filled up in the mean time.

it's not exactly witness for the defense, but some of our better successes happened bc other teams took away our first option so we had to adapt

Carroll is a solid hire? In 2025?

Absolutely. He's not there for the long term. He's there to change the culture and develop a staff probably with succession planning in place. He's a proven culture building HC which is one of if not his biggest strengths as a HC. Tom Brady picked Carroll for the job to do just that. I would pay attention to who he hires on his staff, that would give a good indication of who his replacement will be after he rebuilds the team culture.

We'll also be the last team to build a staff of assistant coaches. Even the Bucs who lost their OC yesterday is ahead of us in the OC search.

I think every potential HC already has a lot of staff members he’s planning to bring wherever he goes.

It was 2 days of snow. DA was fired at the beginning of November. Five other teams have hired coaches and the Cowboys are close.

This whole coaching search has felt a little like Mickey Loomis didn't get his way with the handling of DA and has been sulking and pouting throughout. Now that his tantrum is losing steam, he's going to have to give in and hire someone, even with his folded arms and red face.

The point is that other than the Bears, they all fired their coaches after the season and we had a 2 month head start on getting prepared for the process and are dead last. I don't get it.

Every coach has his own contacts. Its not like there’s an objective power ranking of assistants and the first hired gets first pick.
