I'm not sure if you're familiar with it, but many of the Mardi Gras krewes have a huge party after the parade finishes its route and they call it a Ball. The end of the parade is like the end of a fireworks show where everything goes nuts. Bacchus is one of the big parades, and they roll into a huge arena (it used to be the Superdome for Bacchus, but that was a long time ago).

Check this out - it's pretty cool. Good stuff starts about 35 seconds in.

I love this, my Mardi Gras days are over, but the memories, and non memories are priceless.
I especially like the the crowd in their tuxedos and $1,000 ball gowns begging for plastic cups.

Exactly.

My ex-stepdad was a member of Bacchus so he and my Mom were at the Ball during their time together.

It was always a late night (or really early morning) for them.

But, he would change into his tux after riding for hours in the parade. I always thought that was pretty cool.

When I was an undergrad at USM I was friends with a grad student and her husband (late 20s/early 30s)
I brought them down for Endymion and the husband was VERY dubious- his whole vibe reeked if ‘this is dumb, why is everyone nuts about worthless plastic?’
After 4 floats he was in the mix screaming for beads

I feel like arse, but gonna try to push thru. In the last week I've battled back a common cold and then got exposed to basically my entire in-law fam that 3/4 have tested positive since Xmas day...then both my wife and daughter caught strep the past few days. I think my immune system is angry.
We are hosting a happy hour and then going to a party tonight, not sure how I am gonna make it because my body has basically shutdown all week at 9pm...
Doing burnt-end pork belly pieces that has been smoking since 6AM, I finish it with a homemade BBQ that is habanero bourbon with apricot jam and clover honey.

They've been shooting them here for the last week. I must be tired of having people on my lawn, and I still like setting things on fire, but I wish they would keep the fireworks to their designated window.
