I still feel that Rizzi deserves a chance to be interviewed. I’m not saying give him the job. But I do think that he should get a chance to be interviewed and see what he would bring tot he table as far as being a head coach with assistants he chooses and players that he has had a voice in getting. Am I saying give him a job just because? Not at all. But in the pool with the others, absolutely

Rizzi said today he's got an interview scheduled, which is fair, but he shouldn't get the job. For me, I'm against the idea because it lacks vision for a new direction and Rizzi seems too married to this offensive staff and aging veterans. Watch his press conference.

Also, this GM won't admit he made a mistake, so I'd be afraid he'd hold on to Rizzi too long if things aren't going well.

Additionally, it would also be a terrible hire if you're trying to sell fans on an ambitious future and hope. It would be the laziest hire ever, even more so than Glenn.

There's a reason interim coaches typically don't get these jobs.

An interview is no big deal; that's just a courtesy. However, we need change, and he does not represent change on any level.

Johnson has his pick of teams, though I wonder if this is just the Patriots looking for leverage on Vrable after Vrable used the Jets as leverage on them. He's not going to take this job because there are open jobs with young QBs that are further along in the rebuilding process than we are. It's possible the Saints contacted his agent and he said Johnson isn't interested in interviewing.
People are looking for every little asinine thing to find fault with ML. It's getting out of hand and they are just making crap up SMH

I'm really rooting for Ben Johnson to be a huge bust. He seems to have a massive ego and I'm not sure it's warranted.
I think that sentiment is growing. From his salary demands to his reportedly wanting to pick his own GM. I've read where he has some personality quirks.
It would be great if he goes to the Bears and completely bombs with all that firepower

Yeah, I'm almost anti-Johnson at this point. That offense is absolutely loaded with talent. Sure he calls good plays most of the time, but he's not doing that with the Saints roster that finished this season. He's also probably not doing a lot it when we are at full strength as Olave/Shaheed are not the WRs ASB and Williams are. We don't have a LaPorta nor do we have a Gibbs.
I'll take AK at 22 over Gibbs any day

Just the change he made to the coaching of the defensive line took them from horrific to at least serviceable/above average. Cam Jordan was a ghost before the change was made.

I'm not a fan of keeping Rizzi, but wouldn't be too upset if he's given a chance to build his own team and work with a healthier roster. Only if we have trouble landing some of the better candidates with our cap situation.

He did make some gametime clock management mistakes and maybe a bit too "enthusiastic" ;) at times.
Our D performed a good bit worse after DA was fired, especially TOs. All Rizzi did was get rid of Grantham which was a move that should have been made earlier. All that happened was that Cam went from playing 10 snaps a game to like 40. More opportunities = more plays and he was not kicked inside.

Rizzi had too many questionable time mgt issues and looked like he was going through a lot of growing pains

I actually think Rizzi would do well as a head coach where ever he lands. I think this was a good experience for him and basically got trial by fire. I think with his own staff and vision, he could make some noise. My first move would be getting Selah to run the defense...lol.
Gotta disagree with ya brother on that one. When you have a guy that has never been an OC or DC at a high level then it's a must to have TWO great coordinators. I saw too many growing pains with Rizzi, some bad time mgt. and some decisions I think were wrong. If he's serious about being a NFL HC I think he should try being an OC or DC 1st or maybe a HC at a major college and work out his growing pains

How so? He has a really good thing going and wants to be selective in the next situation because when a team is changing coaches it's always going to be a really heavy lift. He's only 38 years old and has plenty of time to be a head coach. Winning on the other hand is something that's really hard to do in the NFL and he has full autonomy in one of the best offenses in the NFL. So I think it's actually really refreshing to see a young coach have enough self awareness to not jump at any HC job and wait for one that feels right. That's how we ended up with Payton instead of the Raiders getting him the year prior.
Yeah and looking at some of the organizations looking for a coach I think he is trying to set himself up to make the decisions he wants made regarding the team. Can’t blame him really I would want the same things. At least he knows he is in control of his destiny.

Yep. I'm not mad at Johnson at all because unlike other candidates, he built his brand to basically choose his destiny and not having to end up in a messed up situation. Now, don't get me wrong; the best coaches are the ones that can get a messed up situation and be able to turn it completely around, and are usually the ones to garner the most respect. (I know I do). But there is nothing wrong with bypassing that.
I agree and disagree. The Lions have had an incredible bounty of picks from their own ineptitude and the Stafford trade. Holmes had done a very good job of drafting and has given Johnson a great OL and a plethora of offensive weapons. The question is, how much is it Johnson and how much is it the great OL and St. Brown , Williams, Gibbs , Montgomery and LaPorta? He even had Hockinson and Swift before those guys.

I'm with you, give me a guy that does more with less talent. That's why I'm not all google-eyed about Brady and some are. @ LSU he had maybe the best offense ever in college football and he was not even the play-caller. He goes to Car and bombs and gets fired. Now @ Buff he has maybe the best or at least a top 3 QB a top OL and some very good WRs and a very good TE and Cook .

Man I'm listening to Cam's exit interview and it's discouraging to hear the lack of respect he received between DA and Todd Grantham. At one point he was told "You're not needed" and that playing 10 snaps "may be his new normal" and he pointed one of those two barbs came from the HC. That's kind of wack, and even more wack when you consider the role he was given resulted in 0 sacks, but once Rizzi came in and combined that w/ moving Grantham he ended w/ 4 sacks.
Exit interview? Has someone announced that Cam's leaving the team?
