Nick Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (309 Viewers)

I don't feel Carr is the long term answer. Not sure if Rattler is the guy either. That's up to Moore and his staff to decide on. The biggest question is Moore and the staff looking at film and seeing if he can 1) learn the system, which any QB on the roster, acquired via FA or the draft is going to have to do. 2) be the leader that Moore needs/wants to not just run but command the offense Moore wants to implement.
We have tons of holes and there isn't a single MUST HAVE QB in this draft...we all can admit this class is weak.
We not use this draft to acquire future tools (TE, Guard, WR, Edge, CB, safety). Let Carr be the guy and focus on how Rattler is progressing. If Rattler has the tools that Moore likes, we are set. If not, look to the 26' draft for THAT QB.
Is keeping Carr another year going to hurt us that badly financially? Yes, we will have to work magic in other areas...but we do that every year. We all want and know we need to get younger. I'm willing to be patient this year and let young players improve to learn the system, slowly weed outthe older guys and make 26' the year. Moore wouldn't have taken the job without the understanding that this year is going to be tough and ugly and enough rope to build long term. FO has already done that and hell..even DA had more than enough rope.

Let's see how the new staff handles those injuries, how the leadership of coaches takes what we have and builds in it. Carr is a stop gap...we know it and so does everyone else. Unless he can be used on draft day as trade bait with another team taking on contract...it's Carr in 25' and building a team for either Rattler or a drafted guy in 26'.

I'm one that wanted to move on from Carr, not because he's bad, but because I think we need to start looking for our franchise QB now and I don't want to wait a year. But it wasn't because I think Carr is bad. He's not, he's just mediocre. But, if he is staying, I hope Moore can somehow unlock Carr and make him the best he can be.

Or, hopefully Rattler takes a giant leap this offseason and beats Carr out in training camp. That would solve so many problems for this team. I don't think it's likely to happen, but it would be amazing if it did.
I think with the coaching around him Moore,Tolzien, Nussmierer we will have a very QB friendly offense that Carr should feel right at home and his steady play should be able to help guide this team on the field.

I also feel like with the Falcons holding onto Cousins it does not mean that the young QB on the roster cant or wont unseat him but its good to have that veteran hand especially with the changes that may be coming in terms on scheme and players on both offense and defense.

I don't know if all this is performative theatrics from the organization to keep a facade of a well run organization.

There is just no way that you can think you can compete with this mess of a roster.

So, I'll will need to see moves that actually back up this delusion of competing.

It's been a matter of moving on from him THIS year or NEXT year. It'll be intriguing indeed to see how Moore fashions the offense with an experienced vet as the starter. Yes, he's a career second-tier-at-best vet, but still experienced none the same.

Logically, they'll need to address the o-line yet again this offseason, either in FA or the draft. Guard, specifically.

Yes. With Carr's lack of mobility they are going to need to do some serious work on the OL. Either that or he'll miss a bunch of games again.

From the business side, it makes sense to keep Carr. I hope they can figure out a way not to restructure him. Also I think if Carr stays, they have to move on from some or all of the older players with the high cap numbers.

You never know. Sometimes with a new coaching staff and a new scheme in general you can catch lightning in a bottle. Our division really only requires we win like 10 or so games which is going to be tough but it’s doable.

I think Carr will be fine. Like usual, he will have a few good game, a few bad games and then the rest will be mediocre. He'll continue to hit some big plays, but he will also occasionally so dumb things like getting pick off trying to throw the ball away.

Hopefully Moore can get him to have more of those good games and fewer bad games. But at his age, I expect we are going to see about what we have seen the last 2 years. Which is fine, but unless we really hit on some draft picks and/or hit on some bargain free agents, I expect a 7 to 9 win season.

And I'm more than willing to give Moore a mulligan this year, and next, given that he can't likely build the roster like he wants to this year or find his young QB this year. But, I'm guessing much of the fanbase won't be as charitable.

Oof... I would like not to have to wait till I'm 40 years old for another playoff berth.

So Mickey plans to restructure Carr and go all in on the salary cap again...

I think Carr is a career loser but his contract makes it really difficult to move on this year. Ross Jackson said just because the Saints do a restructure this year, it does not mean they're still tied to him after 2025. They could do a surgical restructure or a partial restructure without severe damage in 26 and 27.

I know we’ve debated the hell out of this and though I am firmly for this move, I get the other side. I feel it makes poor financial sense to move on at this juncture, but we’ll see if this ended up being the correct move down the road.

I don't think any team is going to come out and say we are going to suck this year and we don't want to win. That's just not how it works in the NFL. MLB teams and NBA teams do it, although they seldom if ever admit to it, but NFL teams almost never do it and they never admit to it if they are doing it.

I think they will try to stay competitive, but I think/hope it will look much like what we did in free agency last year, with most of the additional activity being the addition of a few more lower priced guys that know Moore and Staley's system. I would kind of expect some sort of signing on the OL.

I think what's missing in some of these thoughts is that....I don't think the team feels much differently than fans do...in that Carr isn't the future answer.

However, I think the team also understand that the currently layout of the team...isn't conducive to the development of a young QB starting games just for the sake of starting them. The best organizations groom their QB's slowly so you don't have a Sam Darnold situation...where the kid performs horribly for his drafting team, they let him go due to impatience and then he goes and puts it all together w/ another team.

The Saints are smart to protect Rattler if they believe he has future starting potential and Carr is an ideal Bridge QB. Chiefs were a playoff team when they gave Mahomes the reigns.

I think its the word "reset" and "rebuild" they are trying to stay away from because words like that do not attract free agents who want to win now.
