Did they say that Jefferson wasn't an embarrassment? Go look and see how many committees that Jefferson sits on in Congress and then come back here and tell me what the Nat'l Democrats think of Bill Jefferson.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt reveled in Sen. David Vitter's admission of a "very serious sin" involving an escort service and said Wednesday he's got leads on embarrassing sexual activities involving other members of Congress.

FULL ARTICLE - The Washington Post
"We've got 20-some investigations that all look good," Flynt said during a news conference at his Beverly Hills office.

"We have got some high-ranking Republican and Democratic members of the Senate and the House," he told reporters.

Did they say that Jefferson wasn't an embarrassment?

From what I recall....No. The state democratic chair did not, but if your going to call out Vitter as one, you definately should call out a criminal in your own party.

A STATEMENT FROM LOUISIANA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN CHRIS WHITTINGTON ON INDICTMENT OF CONGRESSMAN WILLIAM JEFFERSON

“Congressman William Jefferson has always been a strong advocate for the people of Louisiana and has during his tenure in Congress made good votes and done great things to further the progress of the state.

As far as Congressman Jefferson’s legal issues, we will not attempt to analyze the federal indictment nor interpret the law. An indictment is not an admission of guilt – we will leave that decision to the courts.”

So it's important that anyone who calls one politician an embarrassment must also take the time to compile a complete list and carry it with him or her at all times to ensure fair and equal coverage of all of the political embarrassments should he or she be presented with such an opportunity?

Yes!

It's so funny how people from both sides of the "political fence" are tossing the same insinuations against people on the other side.

Face it, if you chose a side of that fence -- you are doing the exact thing(s) that you will accuse the other side of doing, you just can't see it because of your blinders.

Republicrats indeed. Stop the madness, register Independent.

Not sure if I agree with that, V Chip. I see people on all sides of the spectrum pretty much excoriating Vitter for this. It's not only an embarrassment to his party and to his family, but to the entire state of Louisiana.

What good is it going to do to register Independent and keep voting for Republicans and Democrats? What good does it do if there are no independent candidates to vote for? What good does it do if the independent candidates are also sleeping with prostitutes?

The Vitter situation is not a political problem; it's a personal problem of sexual infidelity.

Vitter remains silent. I wonder whether the reason is that he wants a better idea of what will come out before he answers questions in public. Not an encouraging thought.

However, the purpose of this post is to note the Washington Post column by E.J. Dionne, who offers a "qualified defense" of Louisiana's junior senator. I expect the T-P or Advocate in the next few days will be running Dionne's column.

The main points: There are public responsibilities and private responsibilities, and a traditional approach is to let the public hold elected officials to their public responsibilites and to let the family hold elected officials to their private responsibilities. And the issues facing our elected officials are far greater than the question of which elected officials is a faithful spouse.

For the article, you can try the Washington Post or Real Clear Politics website.

- Does he mention that all bets are off when said public official builds his career on "family values"??

Actually, I heard that guy on the radio specifically saying that Vitter should resign because he "admitted" to a crime (which he has not), and Jefferson was different because has not been convicted of a crime.

In other words, a Democrat charged with murder found at scene of crime with weapon, and evidence of motive and 3 witnesses is ok as long as he claims he is innocent, but Republican who admits to illegal parkign should resign because he is an admitted criminal.
