OTAs Week 1’s Practice Notes & Highlights: Trevor Penning moving to Right Tackle (2 Viewers)

No matter how the sunshine pumpers spin it, it will be a long season with Penning next to Ruiz. It has “I don’t want to waste two first rounders I’ve spent on him” written all over it.

Yeah, I am not going to get too excited about the news that a player is merely lining up at a different position. I need to see him when the pads are on and the bullets are flying before suddenly thinking all is well.

One plus though is that he is definitely now in a OL friendly system with some great leadership in his ear, so hopefully he can turn things around.

I'm excited, because all the dominos are falling into place. All the way down to Taysom being move around more. FB snaps allows you to get him the ball pretty quickly on quick handoffs too since he's not going to be a QB anymore.

How good everyone will be is yet to be seen, but making sure the puzzle pieces are turned properly is a good start. All the way down to a sense of urgency and precision returning to the fold with Kubiak shouting at guys for lining up incorrectly. Felt like last year there just wasn't the severe attention to detail that was normally there with Payton. I know DA is a detailed guy but he can't be everywhere at once if he's trying to focus on his D....he needed a KK as much as Payton needed a 3G.

The guys are buying into the new system too..that's big as well.

Really like the Taysom out of the backfield clip. Hopefully we actually use it.

I remember getting excited about Shaheed getting backfield work during last offseason, and not very much came out of it.

I have a feeling that the days of us NOT doing things that make sense are gone, at least from an offensive strategy standpoint.

He's still going to line up at quarterback. Dennis Allen said as much in his media availability today.

Payton needed 3G and DA as our teams best years where with these two coordinating the defense, as you stated Kubiak is taking control of the offense where as PC was just the moderator of an offense so hopefully we get to see a complete football team on the field and not just a good defensive one.

Hopefully Kubiak is seeing some expanded uses for him. No sense having a swiss army knife if your just gonma use the flathead screwdriver and toothpick.
Looking forward to seeing the Digital Clock, the Watch Case Opener, the Thermometer, the Altimeter, the Laser Pointer, the Whistle, the Removeable Flashdrive, the LED Flashlight, the Orienteering Tool, the Phillips Head Screwdriver, the Awl, the Bottle Opener, the Can Opener, the Scissors, the Tweezers, the Pliers, the Fingernail Clippers, the Nail File, the Carabiner Clip, the Hook Remover, the Corkscrew, the File, the Saw, the Cigar Cutter, the Watch Case Opener, the Orange Peeler, the Hoof Cleaner, the Magnifying Glass, the Laser Pointer, the Ski Wax Scraper, the Scaler, the Butane Lighter, the Tread Depth Gauge, the Ruler, the Chain Rivet Tool, the Choke Tube Tool, the Glass Breaker, and the Blade.

Taysom carries a wide assortment of tools in his arsenal that have never before been used. Hopefully Klint will sample a lot more of them than what has been used in the past.

I'd prefer that Kubiak hold a few back until week 7, October 17th on a Thursday night when Payton and the Broncos come to the Dome. That's when he can use the Hoof Cleaner, the Orange Peeler, the Ski Wax Scraper, the Corkscrew, the Choke Tube Tool, the Can Opener, and the Blade.

Yeah I was listening to this guys youtube and he said "DA isn't a culture creator" and he kind of made it an umbrella statement as though DA should be responsible for the entire culture of the team, however I disagreed because if that's the case Sean was just as bad at creating a "culture" for the defense until he got DA and 3G. I get what he was saying but not every guy can be say a John Harbaugh, most coaches..depending on what they specialize in will focus on that area and leave someone else in charge of the other area.

I think the only culture that matters is winning, and I don't believe that weakened under DA other than the actual wins not coming through but I believe the veterans still hold that standard.

This is going to be so fun to watch, Even little things like TC being outside of New Orleans, something that fell into place due to the renovations, I believe will bode well for the overall work that they'll be able to accomplish because they don't have to deal with monitoring the players in Louisiana heat.

Derek Carr should practice sign language for the hearing impaired. Every time he talks he is moving his arms and hands.

For all the Rattler hype after the draft and Rookie Mini Camp there's probably a few guys here that are tongue tied after the first full team practice at OTAs not being able to anoint Rattler as the day 1 starter or not even the #2 already. It appears he had the toughest outing of all QBs today.

So to that end, let's not get ahead of ourselves. However, there's a long way to go between now and opening day. Hopefully he'll make strides between now and then as well as everyone else.

The Carr interview post practice was encouraging. Players are excited about the new system and new coaches. Carr says there's been a lot of comradery amongst the players and he's an open book to help the young QBs be the best they can be. Nothing to dislike about that.

I think the hype is way too premature. No matter who has a good or bad day, can't really gauge anything from today or any practices until training camp and preseason games.
