He's in the last year of his deal isn't he? Idk why anyone would trade for him and he probably would hurt their cap if they were to just cut him loose.

that false headline went out everywhere (Not blaming the OP) it was an interpretation of Matt Rhule commenting on the positive progress of Cam Newton's rehab which Ian Rappaport interpreted as them suddenly wanting to keep Cam. Cam is still on the trading block.

This. I’d put money on the Panthers FO trying to pump up his trade value pre draft while quietly shopping him. It’s a win, win for them. When teams call them inquiring about Newton’s availability they get to say “You want our starting QB? Well we never thought about it (wink, wink) but we want at least a second rounder and player for him”. And if no trade deal is reached before/during the draft they can say to Newton “See we believe in you. We were never going to trade you. Teams wanted you but we told them no”.

Rhule had no say in the matter. That call was made a long time ago. They will bring somebody in, talk about quarterback competition and learning a new system, but at the end of the day David Tepper wants Cam until the fans lose interest so Newton will be the quarterback until then.
