Patrick Robinson retiring (1 Viewer)

Isn’t this like meeting a chick for dinner just so you can tell her your not staying.

When asked about P-Rob, Payton said "he didn't want to let anyone down" in his presser today. I wonder if they were planning to play him on the outside, where he has struggled in the past? Or maybe, he just felt he doesn't have it anymore in general. If that is the case, I certainly can't blame him for wanting to end his career on a high note, but I only wish he hadn't waited so late to make the decision.

Nope.

If he were to be traded now his 2021 cap hit would go from 10.1M to 8.9M This tears signing bonus charge) for a savings of 1.2M.

Next year his signing Bonus charge goes to 22.7M but that is 2M less than his combined salary, roster bonus, and 1 years worth of signing bonus.
It's still over $30 million dollars over 2 years. My point is that it's dead money. It still has to be paid against the cap, and you don't have the services of the player.

Thomas was never going to have that $24 million cap his for 2022. Loomis would do his Loomising thing and restructured, or MT13 would be gone. But instead of paying $30+ million, next year the 2 year cap hit would be down to $22 million or so ($9 million 2022, $13 million 2023). Still dead money, but a bit less.

Robinson's been dealing with on-going injuries the last two seasons. I have a feeling something got aggravated and at his age he decided it is better to retire before turning into Jason David, than to turn into Jason David.

I guess the real question is, why would he participate in training camp then proceed to retire during said training camp. Pretty stupid in my book, you have obviously been thinking about it considering how abruptly your decision was. All you did was waste time, my time, the team's time, your own time, and your coaches time...great timing is the story of the 2021Saints off-season.
Because he thought he could go and then he learned that he couldn't, most likely that.

LMAO!!!!!

Quote of the day!!

SR should just shut down right now for the next 24 hours to enjoy this shade of dark humor, & post it by itself in the "sticky" section at the TOP.. LoL!

I'm glad he came clean.

It's a hard thing to admit one is aging. It's harder to acknowledge it.

Kudo's to Patrick Robinson. He went out the right way.
Except for Dan Morgan. He did that twice to us so no kudos to him. What? Oh, this is a Rally's? My bad.

Maybe, but from reporters who have been covering camp, the Saints had moved him from nickel, where he has excelled, to outside where he has struggled. In this case, it's hard to blame him, since he knew he would possibly be getting ragged on if he struggled.

Lattimore
Crawley
Adebo
Poole (Slot CB)
PJ (Slot CB)
CGJ (Slot CB)

Saints may need to find another outside corner but the unit can perform with these current players, I don't see the loss of PRob all of a sudden should have people in a panic when in fact most wanted him gone after last season.
