Patrick Robinson retiring (1 Viewer)

Robinson became an All Pro? Source?

His pro-football-reference.com summary doesn't reflect your claim.

Yes, it does. He was 2nd team All-Pro in 2017 for his excellent play at nickel corner for Philly.

It's also literally on the link that you provided, if you just scroll down a little.

Just find it weird that he would wait so long into Camp knowing our holes in the secondary to just up and retire. That could have been done in the off-season and allowed us to pursue a better replacement.
So can we say its rebuilding year yet, or still naw?
Careful now… using that word is like arguing how many draft picks we spent on Dav.

Still nah. If Pat Robinson saw the field this year, something would have went wrong. Injuries and suspensions be damned, this team is still trying to win this year with the roster we have in place. Too talented not to.

This. If P-Rob was in good enough shape physically and mentally to play a big role this year, it's VERY unlikely he'd be retiring right now. We needed corner help before, and we still do.

I feel the same way....I felt the rookie CB would have to step up and contribute sooner rather than later, I still feel the same way....

And how exactly is the team going to absorb the $32 million in dead cap that triggers immediately with a trade?

The Saints are married to MT13 until a minimum of June 2022. At that point the dead cap is $22 million and can be split between the 2022 and 2023 salary cap.

SFIAH
Also add Thomas is hurt. Nobody wants an injured player that's not even coming back until November.

Good guy, good player, but he only played like a 1st rounder in the Eagles scheme of their Super Bowl year.

His being drafted by the Saints was a head-scratcher. It was after the Saints won the Super Bowl, and it appeared the Saints drafted him as BPA just to cockily mess with the Vikings who had an early 2nd round pick and a clear CB need.

Gronk was drafted a few spots later in the 2nd round, but we ended up drafting Jimmy Graham in the 3rd round.

A middle 2nd rounder that year was Sean Lee. Granted it's retrospect, but Saints could've benefited from drafting Lee, since defensive leader Scott Fujita left for the Browns after the Saints won Lombardi.

Heard something on talk radio the other day. The commentator was talking about long tenured vets being asked how they know when it's time to hang it up. He said the answer he's gotten most often was "I won't, they gonna have to tell me... then they're going to have to convince me". Maybe the coaches seen it and convinced him it was time?

or Maybe this is a case where his heart and mind are telling him he had another year left and his body told him, "nope, just 10 days of camp".

or Maybe he looked at the weather forecast for the next 3 weeks and saw triple digit heat indexes across the board.

Either way, he's had a heck of a career and I wish him all the luck in whatever his next chapter holds.

With the signings of the vet CBs Amukamara, Brian Poole, and Adonis Alexander, one of them will be able to replace Robinson so we’ll be fine. I think the coaching staff may have known ahead of time from P-Rob that he was retiring, which prompted those 3 signings to see who’ll replace him once he announced.
