Patrick Robinson retiring (2 Viewers)

Robinson really turned it around, became an All Pro, won a Super Bowl, and had an incredibly successful career.

This is also a good thing for the Saints. To people worrying about replacing him, keep in mind he is a 33 year old CB whose body started breaking down. Instead of being nothing but an injured liability this season, he is retiring. This isn't the loss some of you guys are making it out to be.

He was in the last year of his contract. The Saints will actually gain cap space.
Dang it's already the last year of his contract? Wow, 4 years by fast when our team winning & having fun. So he does have to pay back this year salary?

Saints will gain $2M minimum in cap space be his retiring and possibly another $1.25M if the team makes him repay this years signing bonus charge.

Welp...CJ Henderson, c’mon down! He would fit in well w/our DBs, especially w/Chauncey being a former Gator & all.

And how exactly is the team going to absorb the $32 million in dead cap that triggers immediately with a trade?

The Saints are married to MT13 until a minimum of June 2022. At that point the dead cap is $22 million and can be split between the 2022 and 2023 salary cap.

SFIAH
There wouldn't be an acceleration of dead money if he were to be traded now. There is a post June 1 trade clause where the acceleration takes place the following year.

The way this off-season has gone I won’t be at all surprised to open SR tomorrow and read the headline “Saints Headquarters Burn to the Ground”……
Nothing would surprise me right now.

Somebody going on IR to enter rehab for a heroin addiction.

Tragic Monopoly accident.

Voluntary Tommy John surgery.

MRI revealing vampirism, can only play night games.

CGJ crosses a line with trash talking and gets into a fight with himself.

Duncan outs AK for being an alien.

I guess the real question is, why would he participate in training camp then proceed to retire during said training camp. Pretty stupid in my book, you have obviously been thinking about it considering how abruptly your decision was. All you did was waste time, my time, the team's time, your own time, and your coaches time...great timing is the story of the 2021Saints off-season.

#1 Robinson couldn't care less about your time nor should he. Entitlement issues.

#2 You don't know what happened to change his mind. Maybe he had a nagging injury. Maybe someone in his family fell sick making him shift his priorities. Maybe...absolutely, it's none of our business.

#3 Free country. It applies to players too. He wanted to retire, he's free to do so.

It's not uncommon. Every year there are training camp retirees, typically older guys around who maybe want to give it one last year but decide their body just doesn't have it for another year.

Believe me, the Saints weren't relying on contributions from P Rob. They've been vocal about a need at corner and that was with him on the roster. If he trotted out at #2 corner to open this season, something would have went very wrong.
