Alert! Patriots trade DT Davon Godchaux to the Saints for 2026 7th round pick (111 Viewers)

Nathan Shepherd, Khalen Saunders, John Ridgeway III, Khristian Boyd.
Don't see much 3-4 positional flexibility with these guys, expect 2-3 of these guys to be gone by the end of training camp. with Shepherd amd/or Saunders cut in the next couple days.
Saw this article on Khristian Boyd and how playing NT would maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses

At 6'2" and 320-Lbs., Boyd fits the physical prototype of a 3-4 nose tackle. His college tape, post-season collegiate performance, and little NFL action also shows a player who could be suited for that role.

Boyd has excellent upper body power and plays with terrific leverage. He's extremely hard to knock off point and even more difficult to knock off his feet. His core strength allows him to hold up well against double teams, while his good initial movement at the snap often gave him an immediate leverage advantage.

Boyd's shorter arms limited him as a 4-3 tackle. He's also shown some issues in read-and-react responsibilities, causing him to get sealed inside or slow in play recognition. Neither are nearly as big an issue for a nose tackle in a three-man front.

Nose tackle is pretty much a position of pure power and leverage. Boyd has both. He also has a high motor and surprising arsenal of pass rush moves. Most importantly, Boyd has the ability to withstand multiple blockers with the strength to stalemate and the agility to slip by them.

He's a good player, don't like that he is 30 but he could still be effective for 2-3 years and the price was right IMO.....This is a good pickup at a position of need....
He is a veteran that can play in the new scheme, it is a good trade as you acquire a player who fits the scheme and you get a jump in free agency in building your defense.

Agreed, good NT's (some that we have had in the past include Tony Elliott and Norman Hand).....can also demand doubles and open things up for others.....thinking that Bresee will benefit here....

Yeah, only listed him to show how many players rostered last year are basically at the same position assuming Saints go to a 3-4. I think Boyd is a keeper if for no other reason he is young & cheap.

Here's a good read. This came out about a month earlier. They suggested we trade a 5th rounder for him but the article pegged him as a fit for Staley's defense.

Solak continued: "Godchaux isn't a high-end acquisition, but he sure is good. A true two-gapper who can produce tackles at or near the line of scrimmage, he ranked ninth among defensive tackles in stop rate last season (the rate of plays that resulted in negative EPA for the opposing offense). Those plays don't come in the passing game, which is the more valuable skill, but Godchaux's strength on early downs is what helps the defense get to long-and-late opportunities."

A 30 year old defensive tackle that graded out terribly the last 3 years? Color me unexcited.
PFF doesn't have him graded highly, I noticed but finishing 9th in run stops with 600+ snaps I think should Donald Trump a paper grade in some way.
