Weird pick after picking up Davenport’s fifth year option. Depth at DE didn’t seem to be an issue. He should be a decent Hendrickson replacement but using a first with a paper thin LB corp and no CB opposite Lattimore? Like I said - weird.....
When they picked up Davenport 5th term meant now Davenport has to prove that he can stay healthy. He is Davenport replacement for now. So maybe 2 injured DE can equal 1 healthy one all the time. Some mock draft had him going to Saints at 60

Another big asre lineman that we have to wait and see if he develops... In a year where we have 1 starting CB on the roster (that may be suspended), One starting WR on the roster (and no one else can get separation), and One starting LB on the team (who is now 32 years old) - Oh yeah, and we no longer have a HOF QB.

We needed a guy that is a near certain starter and impact player on day one. I don't see that here (hope I'm wrong - and he's JJ Watt out the gate)

I'm pissed. This was a typical Sean Payton "I'm the only coach that's smart" pick.

It continues tonight ?

Maybe this Turner Payton guy is related to coach...

The pick nobody seen coming. I seen him as early 2nd.
Ya, me too. But 28 is pretty close to RD 2, so the value is on par w/where we took him. Straight up, Payton Turner is literally Cam Jordan V2. Had this man had the opportunity to play an entire season (at a new position mind you) i have no doubt that he wouldve been a more talked about prospect amongst the draft media. I chose LOVE IT, cause i do!

I agree he is Davenports replacement. I have never heard of him but I won't be mad about high picks at OL or DL.

If Davenport FINALLY lives up to his potential then we are set when Can Jordan retires. Which may be sooner than we think if he doesn't have a bounce back year

3 of the next 4 picks, after #28, were pass rushers. Rousseau, Oweh and Tyron. I like Turner better than those 3, better bend. I love the pick. We will find secondary help later in the draft.
His bend really jumps out at you. For a guy his size he moves really well. When/if he learns how to consistently use his long arms to keep O linemen off of him he could do some things.

If you were to ask a D line coach to build a player from scratch that player would look a lot like Turner. And we have one of the best D line coaches in football to mold this kid as he sees fit. Nielsen has to be a happy man today. I just hope he stays in New Orleans long enough to get the most out of his new weapon.

I'm not thrilled with it at 28. Would have loved it at 60 but if Schefter is right he may not have been there. Still JOK or Barrmore felt like the pick there. If we were gonna reach a little I think Stokes, Samuel or Campbell made more sense.

What's not to like? They reinforced the D-line, which lost three key contributors, they bring in a guy that can pass rush from day 1, and they get to groom him behind Cam (since he plays a similar style).

When WWL interviewed him he sounded quite surprised we took him that high. Detillier pointed that out on the broadcast. He said we were quite interested, but I didn’t know at 28. He didn’t even think he would go that high. Detillier wasn’t a huge fan of the pick as was Bobby. Christian was asking Mike about how Cam looked when he came out compared to Payton. Both him and Bobby almost laughed and were like Cam was seen as a potential day one starter with huge potential. That draft was loaded at defensive end and we were extremely lucky to get Cam that late in the draft. Luckily he was a 3-4 DE that was better at run defense than rushing the passer, so he fell further than most.

Yeah, I trust Jeff Ireland and his scouting staff more than Detillier or that clown Bobby....the more I think about it, I believe it comes down to 2 things:

1) The Saints were desperately trying to trade up for I believe who they thought the best CB was, the cost was simply too high. I don't think Ireland wants to trade a future 1st again, just a gut feeling.
2) The Saints were very aware that this was a relatively weak draft in terms of 1st round talent so they went with talent/potential over game performance, hoping the kid matures quickly into the player he could become....

That is all I have....
