I wanted Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah real bad. I liked him a lot in the draft and thought we would have to trade up to get him, but Bam he falls right into our laps and we pass. We never seem to take the linebacker I really like in the first. Damn you Clemson LB whose name escapes me at the moment due to him being such a bum. If not him Elijah Moore would of been a great pick to add some more speed to the receiver core. I didn’t even know who this guy was cause I didn’t do my usual draft study since I was busy this year. I really looked at corner, receiver, and linebacker in the first. I thought all the 1st round corners were taken except I liked Tyson Campbell out of Georgia. I really liked Kadarius Toney but he was taken. Then I wasn’t sure if any of the first round LBs would be available and the guy I think may end up being the best out the draft falls into our laps and we pass like we did last year with Patrick Queen. I just really would of liked a potential starter this year with our first round pick and this guy likely will not be unfortunately. Oh well. Hopefully we can get those 3 positions I think we need the most later in the draft. I would love to see us trade up for JOKer like we did with Baun last year, but we have to get a corner & receiver as well so who k

Putting aside the questions of durability and being too tall and low on the learning curve (all of which can become positives), the pick is a good one. Going by his college play, he is a good and potentially great DE.
There was not an obvious, "no brainer" pick at # 28.
A good DE makes your corners and safeties better, as well as just about every other position on your defense.
Less time for the QB means less time your D is on the field, and therefore more opportunities for your offense.
It's all in the dominoes, my friends.

That is what I see with the pick Tom good analysis. We have to disregard past health issues at this point and focus on the positive. The kid can collapse a pocket quick fast in a hurry and get his hands up when necessary to block a pass with a 7ft wing span. In a division with Tom Brady and the Harlem Globe Trotter Receiving corps they have I like him alot. If you are facing Superman, grab Kryptonite my friend

Would have liked JOK or Samuel, but can understand if they were concerned about size. Nobody really fell to us, the board was pretty picked over. Some other DEs available that had better grades, but who knows. I voted Meh.

Who can say for certain how any picks pan out in the end. We have a feeling, generally based off of a myriad of partial (or no) information, and then we slowly, but surely, see the true merit of a pick unfold before our eyes. Sometimes what we feel turns out to be right, sometimes it doesn't.

I fell asleep before the pick (around 3am) so woke up to see it. First gut instinct was - who and WTF and yeah, been here before. I think in about 500 simulated mock drafts I never picked him once, mainly because I didn't see DE as a huge need and didn't know much about him.

Having said all that, and looking at this objectively (after watching a few videos and reading up a little), this guy looks to be a natural fit for what we do on Dline and fits on a personality level. He has the right size, athleticism and experience to play inside/ outside and be flexible across the front. He does look a little bit like Davenport on the field - though with more bend and less power. I can see why the FO really liked him.

I have no idea whether he'll be good, bad or indifferent, or whether he was a reach or steal (relative to the valuation of him and his peers by other teams, not necessarily media types), but I'm cautiously optimistic about the pick. As I said earlier, I didn't think DE was as big of a need as CB, WR, or LB - but there are a lot of really nice WR's left, a few CB's within our reach in the 2nd / 3rd and LB's too.

So, on verra ça...

Yes but the kid hasn’t even played the position for all that long. And when he did he didn’t dominate in a not top end type conference of college football you would hope like Marcus Davenport did. He screams project and I don’t think we can afford to take a project with the 28th pick in the draft. You want to take potential 1st year starters in the first round unless you are completely loaded at every position which we are not.

When WWL interviewed him he sounded quite surprised we took him that high. Detillier pointed that out on the broadcast. He said we were quite interested, but I didn’t know at 28. He didn’t even think he would go that high. Detillier wasn’t a huge fan of the pick as was Bobby. Christian was asking Mike about how Cam looked when he came out compared to Payton. Both him and Bobby almost laughed and were like Cam was seen as a potential day one starter with huge potential. That draft was loaded at defensive end and we were extremely lucky to get Cam that late in the draft. Luckily he was a 3-4 DE that was better at run defense than rushing the passer, so he fell further than most.

JOK would of been a perfect pick. He is one of the best LBs I’ve seen in coverage. Then when Atlanta took Kyle Pitts who will be a beast TE for years to come it would of made the JOK pick make even more sense

Just because you or any other fan haven’t heard of him doesn’t mean he isn’t talented.

Our front office has drafted very well the past few years, our recently promoted assistant HC (former defensive line coach) turned one of our worst units to its best. Do your research and you’ll see hit fits exactly what we needed and that’s all that matters.
And just because they picked him it doesn't mean he is good. It's not like they are right every time. Cesar Ruiz is not looking great right now, Davenport is not either.

This pick reminds me of pre Ireland drafts. Again, hope I'm wrong.

Sure the value isn't there, but a 290lb DE with a GIANT wing span is going to be the new NFL with getting the ball out quick and running Qbs, this is how you defend them IMO. Saints have always gone and got their guy, no shock here.

The team obviously wanted to trade up. Payton said as much. So IMO this isn't who they were targeting in round one but since they couldnt afford to move up you get a player you can bring along slowly since he's really only depth.
CB and LB are still huge positions of need IMO. Hopefully there are some diamonds yet to be mined.

Weather you can trade up or not, you don’t spend a 1st round pick after losing your HOF QB on a “project” type player. We’ve needed a LB and another CB and we wasted our first round pick on a 4th round prospect for “depth”

With all of the talk of Jordan slowing down and whether or not to sign Davenport again, the position makes sense. They'll put some meat on his bones pretty quickly.

Tom is playing one more season. No reason to pick a developmental player in round 1 to counter Tampa.
