Ratings PFF has Bresee dead last in run defense…. (4 Viewers)

Not surprised at all. Many of us said when he was drafted that he played too tall and too high without leverage to be an early down run defender at DT. When I watched his vids from college I saw a guy that would end up playing as a strong side DE. Similar to a Cam Jordan. Lots of effort. Just not suited to play inside every down. That has shown up more times than not, and he’s really playing DT out of necessity for us.

He’s another good defender we have managed to try and round peg square whole into our team.

When Cam retires I hope we move him outside for good.

We are really just not developing players well or maximizing their talents. It’s horrendous.

Perhaps the Dennis Allen effect was hurting us in ways not seen even during the SP era. I know we bash him as a HC, but perhaps he really wasn’t all that great at defense either and it just got masked a bit by the talent.

Look at the defensive coaching staff Payton's assembled in Denver. The Broncos defense has been struggling lately but even with how poorly they've played in three of their last four games, their overall rank is still fifth in scoring. DA didn't pick his position coaches when he was Payton's DC, Payton did. For as much of an offensive coach that Payton is, he's clearly seen the value in having a strong defensive coaching staff in the same way Dan Quinn's put together a strong offensive coaching staff in Washington. Since 2017, Payton's nailed every single one of his defensive hires. The Broncos went into this season with $90m in dead cap and Pat Surtain as the only guy worth talking about on defense. They'll finish with a winning record and a defense ranked in the top 10/5 in scoring, and possibly even a playoff appearance.

Hiring the right Head Coach is insurmountably critical.

He explained, I don’t know how much more he can detail it. Oh you didn’t see that last game!
You post this like I've been badgering him over and over again. I asked my question once. It was an honest question. And it was the 3rd post on this thread, right after his. Maybe chill? Eat a popsicle? Step outside and enjoy the breeze? Listen to some classical music or something?

Shepherd, Saunders, Roach, and Street are just interchangeable pieces as players. The difference is coaching. Oynemata was a cap casualty. Bresee can't play NT and we don't have a guy to fill that spot. The team needs NT and OG in this draft more than any two other positions.

It would be nice to switch to a 3-4. Get a big nasty NT and let Bresee play DE in a 3-4. Turner could probably play the other side, but there are quite a few guys in this draft who we could get as well. Let Foskey (probably a better OLB in a 3-4) and Young play OLB and wreak havoc on teams. Due to the rushing attacks in the NFL now and especially the NFC South, I'd probably get a NT that is 330+ and have both DEs be big attacking guys like Bresee and 6'5" and over 300lbs.

He can be our Fuaga on Defense!

He is the one player in the draft that we should move up to get!
No please. We need help everywhere and need to start stockpiling draft picks. He's going top 5 from everything
i've read. It would be too costly for the current situation we're in.

Your dlineman in a 3-4 are expected to shed blocks and stop the run or at least set the gap, commanding two blockers to free up your linebackers

Bresee does neither of these. He hasn’t been coached up at all, and could be a dominate DT in the NFL. Right now he’s mostly a liability

We run a 4-3 defense….4-3 defenses don’t utilize nose tackles. That’s a 3-4 defense. Why is everyone talking about not having a nose tackle next to Bresee?

It just a mock but it has him going to us at 10.
I was thinking pick 7,8,or 9 if we moved up.

I understand we have a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball but it is imperative that we do something with the DL & LB.

I’m not gonna put any weight on the players’ overall performance until we have a good coach in the building. Sometimes it takes a good coach to get the most out of these players.

But it’s obvious Bresee isn’t gonna turn out to be some all pro DL talent because those type of guys show out no matter the coaching.
