I think that White will be an excellent nickel CB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Robinson cut this offseason. I think that it will be Lewis and Champ wide...with SJB and Sweeting in reserve.
Robinson won't be cut.

Haven't you been reading the comments from Rob Ryan?

They're saying he looks great.

I'm pulling for all of them to be beast. This should be a hard cut this year and just maybe we can stash at least one of them on I.R. or something.

Since when is $1.2m considered "cost too much?" Robinson's salary is a non-factor in putting together the depth chart.

To answer the question, Bailey starts. You can't keep a smart player like that on the bench. He'll naturally show why he is an NFL starter still to this day very early on in camp.

1.2 for a dime back? because he can't play nickel so yea it is high. At this point in his career champ is a great nickel. When champ was getting beat in the AFC championship everyone was calling him washed up now that he's older and on the saints we want him to start?

I respectfully disagree. $1.2m is not a lot for a dime back in this era of football.

Champ isn't being asked to cover #1 WRs one on one here. Rob will protect him and he will be rotated.

Funny because everyone is saying if he doesn't start we will cut him 1.2 million is high for a nickel if you look at our cap right now add in the jimmy stuff too

Tell me then, what is the appropriate price for a nickel back? Veteran minimal? Rookie minimal?

There is no chance that Robinson makes the team over Bailey, Lewis, and White. Sorry...don't see it happening. Quite frankly...he isn't as good (even without considering his injury history). There is no way that SJB doesn't make the team. The Saints are going going to keep 5 CB...so it is going to come down to Sweeting and Robinson. Robinson has the bigger pricetag and I feel comfortable knowing what he's got at this point. I would rather guy with the cheaper unknown at this point. Sweeting is the one with the upside...Robinson is what he is.

BTW...Rob Ryan's description of a player in OTAs means nothing. And looking great could easily mean...looks healthy. That does NOT mean that he looks like a great player.

Agreed...Ryan is the king of hyperbole. You listen to him, you'll think our entire 53 man roster is a Pro Bowler.

And if they keep 6?

I'm a P-Rob supporter, if they keep him around he will make it impossible to cut him, but there is just too much talent, really with every corner there is a backlog of talent. The staff could say cut one of the corners and, P-Rob is a prime candidate, in order to salvage talent elsewhere. They could also say there is too much talent at corner to just let them walk just to keep a 6th receiver, we'd rather keep 6 corners than 6 receivers.

I actually think it'll be PRob. I think Champ plays great, but they are going to limit him somewhat to keep him healthy.

Either way though, i think it's one of those two. Man can't wait to see some football again... counting down.

What a great problem to have. Those are all some very solid choices. Robinson and White both have starting experience, Champ or course is Champ, and a promising young 2nd round draft pick who could steal the show. Not to mention Sweeting who could also be improved. Wow we are loaded. My bet is still on Champ.

I don't expect SJB to push that much for a starting position this year. I think his pick was predicated more on next year because there is a possibility that we could lose Robinson/Bailey in the offseason. Robinson 4 sure because his contract expires and Bailey if we decide to cut him next year due to performance this year.

SJB is VERY VERY RAW......If CW is in his 3rd year and just catching on from NB duties I would expect a guy who has only played corner 2 years to have the same growing pains.

I think your two primary contenders are Bailey/Robinson because they both have ball skills AND experience. Say what you want about Robinson and his inconsistency the guy has gotten his hands on a LOT of balls since he's been here. INT's and knockdowns alike.

With injuries and wantching to manage players believe u me whoever loses the in the race for #2 will most likely end up playing it @ some point in the season due to injury anyway.

Yeah a lot of folks forget about Sweeting. He was "groomed" last year after a good preseason and training camp. Starting CB is a long stretch but not impossible since i remember hearing a radio interview where Ryan thought highly of him.

Sweeting is our fastest CB. With his speed you would think he would have been drafted, but his overall game must have fallen short somewhere.

I think the answer is P-Rob. In 2014.
I think the plan is...
P-Rob starts this year, but SJB is the future in 15 and beyond.
Champ is insurance in case P-Rob gets hurt again. In the meantime they find packages for him to contribute.
White moves back to slot or 4th CB where he is best suited to be.
Bottom line, SJB is the future. White is slot and plays a lot. P-Rob is the present, and Champ is insurance.

It is Champ's job to lose. Lewis and Bailey should start.
We WILL see injuries, so all will play.
