Pros and Cons after the 49ers game. (5 Viewers)

I am still very high on Rattler. The line gave him no time in this game. I still trust him with the ball in his hands. But yes, like all rookies, he needs to develop for a year or two.

Haener is in no way the clear #2. His erratic throws were all over the place against the #3s and #4s. I DO NOT trust the ball in the hands of Haener. And no, we did not go overboard with Rattler. I still clearly see the talent in him. Please don't get on the "told you so" crowd with Rattler.

At this point, all we have is Haener looked better with the better backups (#2s and some #3s) than Rattler with the same.

I don't think Carr will ever consistently throw receivers to open space. Or lead them enough for much YAC. Got very spoiled by Brees with that.

The problem is receivers get very frustrated with QBs like that.
They probably also get frustrated with his hospital balls.

I thought the LB duel of Gay/Orji did great. Both LB’s are fast sideline to sideline and hit hard.
I can’t wait to watch All-22 film, but last week I thought that Monte Rice had a really good game. He didn’t play this week due to injury, but I think the Saints are really deep at linebacker.

I was pretty happy overall with this game. The 49ers are an elite team and they played well against them. They really played better this week than last week despite the loss and I think they looked much improved.

The OL was better despite Fuaga being out and I think the running game looked good. They did get stuffed a few times, but they also got some really nice chunk plays in the run game. I think Penning was likely very improved, but I really want to see all of his snaps isolated on the OL so I can have a better idea of what he did, but my sense was that he was much better.

But the most positive thing is that the starting defense is looking really good even without Lattimore and Adebo on the field. And the defense looks deep particularly at LB and at DB. The pass rush also looks great with Young and Breese.

There are still issues at Safety opposite Tyrann but I thought Will Harris stepped up a Safety and had a good game. The backup OL was still bad in pass protection but hopefully most of those guys never start. Not a lot of answers at WR behind Olave and Shaheed, but Bub Means had two nice catches and Perry looks to be improving. But, nobody has yet stepped up to really take the #3 WR job.

On the bad side, Foskey still continues to do nothing and Holker sprained his ankle in pre-game and Kook-Aid and Boyd left the game. Hopefully we can get healthy in the next 3 weeks.
I am a big anti foskey guy, but to say he did nothing is crazy, he had 3 pressures and a qb hit.

Pros: Taysom Hill outside of that one combo block

No major injuries

The Second Level guys: Gay, Orji, Hudson

The Pass Rush and Run Blocking

Mason Fairchild

Cons:

All 3 QBs ball placement

Chris Olave blocking

Ugly:
Edge contain vs Dobbs

Howden was awful tonight

Lemiuex as our emergency center

Drafting Foskey over a capable pass catching option seems to be a bust. You really can't function with just two good pass catching options, but we are the only franchise that is trying to compete with two good weapons that aren't elite.

Carr isn't a QB that can make WRs. He's not an accurate QB or knows how to throw with a lot anticipation. He barely could throw an on target slant. Carr needs a lot of talent to prop him up.

Partially disagree here. Sure the more elite pass catchers you have the better but who did the Chiefs really have last year outside of Kelce?

Take it a step further, of the teams that made they playoffs last year, I’d argue that there were easily more that had 2 or less really good to elite playmakers on offense than those that had 3 or more.

How many of those units would you take over the Saints pass catching options objectively speaking?

I've seen people crown Rattler as the Temu Mahomes, so yes, y'all have gone overboard with him. It's way too early for that kind of talk and he's done nothing in the limited 2 preseason games so far to justify it. I like what I see despite him not being good today, but I'm not anoiting him just yet.

Lol Temu Mahomes. It’s weird right. Make a few plays against second stringers and look confident like Mahomes doing it and you are the next Mahomes. Swagger is great and all but doesn’t mean much if you dance in the pocket like you have ants up your pants. I am rooting for the guy but come on.

Agreed.
I’m hoping he proves me wrong but I have zero expectations with him. His whole tape shows the same thing, cannon arm with bad decision making. Any Mahomes comparisons are beyond delusional, even for here, and that’s saying something. lol
