Prototype (2 Viewers)

interesting quote from the review:

"I found several points of the game to be unnecessarily aggravating to the point where I would have turned Prototype off and walked away if I weren't reviewing it. "

i am still looking to play it....but this is a gamefly for me at this point

Yeah, that quote worried me as well. I just hope I won't have to wait forever and a day for gamefly to send it to me.

That's a good point. The IGN review did have some observations that worried me, but pretty much all of the other reviews have been pretty positive. And like you, I don't particularly care for IGN's reviews either.

I'm going to try and gamefly it, so even if it is disappointing, I'll live.

I guess I'll give my own review of the game.
I picked up [Protoype] yesterday after work and I've got about 2.5 hours under my belt. I think the game is really fun, you get to feel like a complete bad *** running around New York and running up buildings at the same time. Once you get a handle on the controls combos and special moves become second-nature.

Don't expect this to look like GTA IV graphics wise. I will admit I was disappointed in the graphics. The sound is awesome, though. If you're hooked up to receiver you can play the game in DTS which is sweet. My sub-woofer got a nice workout while I was ridding the city of infected vermin.

The ability to take the form of anyone in the city is pretty cool. It adds a certain splinter cell feel to the game when you need to lay low.

The voice acting is really great and the story pretty good as well. Overall, this is a rental at best. But, if you have $60 burning in your pocket, I'd say go ahead and pick it up. It's a complete action game and believe me, when your running full steam across the rooftops of lower Manhattan you'll get a smile on your face.

I think the graphics look better than Gta4...you playing at 1080p on a relatively new lcd with hdmi?

I wonder if this game doesn't make the most work of 720. This is possible.

IGN is kinda hit and miss. Sometimes they do a great job, sometimes it's terribad.

7.5 is low..way too low in this case when you consider some of the garbage out there that scores 8.5.

I think that the graphics are better on GTA IV because of the redraw rate. You can see much further on GTA IV. But, it's a minor issue with me. I've always been more engaged with game play than super shiny graphics. But, at the same time, I'm playing on a somewhat new LCD T.V. but in 720p. So, you're probably seeing a lot more polish than I am.

Either way, I really like the game. The battles are epic and pretty tough too.

X-Play just gave the game a 3.5 out of 5. Adam Sessler said it was a solid release.

I agree with you all on that. IGN can really mess up a review. 7.5 is way too low for Prototype.

Played it for about 2 hours yesterday, I love this game. In 2 hours time I did 2 missions, the rest of the time I ran around cutting people in half and throwing cars off the tops of buildings.

Yeah, gta4 was never meant for 1080p at all. Graphics look actually terribad compared to other games that scale well at that setting.

However, gta4 looks great on pc since the new patch came out at high resolutions. They really did a nice job on the pc version.

im sure gta 5 will blow most graphics out of the water.. 4 was at the beginning of this generation.
