Rams trade for Dante Fowler (1 Viewer)

I’m not sure how their salary cap is but all I can think of is CAP HELL in the future for the Rams. But, they are winning right now. I guess if you want a Super Bowl that bad you can sell your future to do it.

We tried this on a smaller level and it never worked out. We swung for the fences on some players and totally struck out.

If we would have landed Su would we have Davenport right now though ?

I have a feeling the Rams won’t be recognizable in 2 years from what we see today and the Seahawks will continue to lead the division. That’s my guess....

Per overthecap.com the rams are 22k over which is impossible under league rules. There had to have been some other kind of move the site hasn't registered yet. (likely whoever they released to bring in Fowler)

Has the NFL changed a bit where buying a championship and using draft picks for big trades is the way to win the SB? Didn't the Eagles do a lot of that last year. I don't know, but I'm interested to hear what other Who Dats think

It has been this way for awhile now. How do you think the Packers won a championship with Favre? Now its just ramping up to ludicrous speed

97/98 Broncos Neil Smith
99 Rams Marshall Faulk
00 Ravens Shannon Sharpe

The Rams have turned into the NBA and buying a championship.

Not quite....

The Warriors in the NBA have 5 All Stars, in which they need every single one of them just to beat one guy who made them crap their pants in Cleveland for years. They couldn't even beat Lebron with a team that went 73-9 and they most likely lose that first Finals if Kyrie and Love aren't injured.

The days of NFL juggernaut teams is long gone. The last teams who seriously bought championships were in the 90's. The salary cap today primarily exists and has hard rules because of the 1994 49ers and the back to back 1997-1998 Broncos who went nuts throwing money around in free agency to load up for title runs. Those teams were far worse than this, cause their defenses resembled that of Pro Bowl rosters that they loaded up on within 1-2 years.

There will be a price to pay with what the Rams are doing. They are following a similar strategy that Denver did between 2012 to 2015 in the twilight of Manning's career when they loaded up in free agency and kept making moves to try and insure a title run. It worked for them in the short term, but Denver is facing serious issues now.

The Rams will have cap problems in future years. It's a move to try and win now and face the consequences later.

A tad if we did not have all pro tackles. He's going to get a good amount of sacks just off single blocking because of Suh and Donald and he's definitely capable of that. Last year he had 8 sacks playing with a similar talented Jags defense.

Fowler could be a good pickup for them. He’s similar to Eli Apple in that they both have the talent, but for whatever reason, they didn’t quite work out with their 1st stop.
I disagree about the Rams being a “similar talented defense” as the Jags. The Jags have/had two of the best Cover CBs in the league last season, and Campbell was playing like a super hero. The Jags LBs are also superior to the Rams.

The Rams are basically like Santa Claus now. Everyone has this idea of what kind of team they are, but that actual team does not exist.

I mean they have the most dominant non-dominant defense I've ever seen.

This isn't exactly true for these teams. I don't have the time to go through all of them, but I do know the 90's Packers pretty well;

Green Bay signed Reggie White in 1993. One of the first ever major free agency signings. They went 9-7 his first two years before going 11-5 in 1995 in Favre's first MVP season. White had immediate impact on their defense and played well in the twilight of his prime, but it was not just him. The Packers were smart to surround him with talent like Philly previously did with those old Buddy Ryan defenses.

They signed Sean Jones in 1994, whom was a vital piece to the old Houston Oilers defense. Jones was a great help to them as an edge rusher, despite being in his 30s. Come 1996, they signed two defensive players that were major; Eugene Robinson and Santana Dotson. Dotson made their already great pass rush into a more lethal unit. Bucs fans may remember Dotson as one of the few good defensive players they had before the Dungy era.

The other key players of the 1996 Packers defense were all drafted by them; George Koonce, Doug Evans and LeRoy Butler. Koonce and Butler were memorable players on that team with Butler being a great anchor corner.

The 1996 Packers went more crazy in free agency for offensive players to load up weapons around their MVP quarterback who was having the best years of his career. It must be noted that in 1994, they lost Sterling Sharpe whom was an elite level receiver and we'll never know just how great he could've been since his career was shortened. Losing Sharpe was dramatic and they went nuts to replace him. They first signed Keith Jackson in 1995, whom became Favre's favorite TE in 1996 and have them a dual TE threat with Chmura. They signed Don Beebe and Andre Rison, giving them another deep threat receiver when they already had two of them (Freeman and Brooks). And last but not least, SB MVP Desmond Howard was a huge pickup on special teams though they didn't use him much at all on offense.

One of the reasons they didn't repeat as SB champions was because they lost some of that key depth from the 1996 season. Their defense struggled in 1997 against run-heavy teams and without Howard and Rison coming back, they lost a lethal deep threat receiver and their kickoff return specialist who helped them when they struggled.

The 2000 Ravens are different too cause they were in the right place, at the right time. Sharpe didn't help out too much on their offense, which is one of the worst units to ever win a SB. They signed some key players in free agency that year, but the Ravens simply peaked at the best possible time. Pull up the list of quarterbacks they faced that year and count how many good QBs they faced. The best QBs they dealt with was a broken down, past his prime Troy Aikman and a 40 year old Vinny Testeverde. Give that same schedule of opposing QBs to the 2016 Broncos and they would've went 16-0 dominating those QBs.

WOW . Rams fan here , I was expecting a lil more of a humbling fans here facing the only undefeated team in the league . It is just one or two guys here that actually knows football and know that this game is totally 50-50 . Most of you are delusional fans that thinks the Saints are going to win 44-14 . LOL . This will be a WAR and one lil detail will make the difference . I will reply to some of the delusional posters here . One by one .

Bring it. Better players than him have tried to get to Brees.

Better than Fowler alone , sure . But better than donald / suh / brockers / fowler ? NOPE . Not even close . You can be sure this is the most dangerous front 4 , brees and your o line will face

You guys do know that Aaron Donald as an INTERIOR lineman LEADS the league in SACKS , right ? You also know he is the BEST defensive player in the league , right ?

This is going to go well...

I'm totally fine with them getting richer at an already rich position and not improving their hole of a secondary. They were exposed last week and we'll blow it wide open this week. And they didn't do anything to bolster it.

And it plays into our strength. I have faith in Brees and the OL nullifying this addition

Our secondary is BAD right now . Talib is out and peters has been a liability . Still , we have the best D line in the game and 2 linebckers that can make plays in litleton and Barron .
