Rattler has to start! (1 Viewer)

...

I think the difference between Haener and Rattler is that Haener throws w/ anticipation and seems to have better post snap recognition. He plays like a guy who's been in the league for a year.

Rattler plays like a SITI QB, that's still a rookie. If the throw isn't clean he'll hesitate or hold the ball too long waiting for it to come open. I've said this a lot, he's not a Point Guard or spread the ball around QB, he's a guy who needs a #1 WR that he can lock onto, that wins 1 on 1's a lot and can make contested catches. He plays better w/ bigger WR's that have a large catch radius.

I was gonna say this same thing. Haener makes decisions and executes. Not always the correct decision or the best pass but he does make them. Rattler isn't at that point yet, don't know enough about his college game to say whether or not that will ever be part of his game but right now at least he needs more help than Olave plus a bunch of rookies and JAGs can provide.

I read a post on X (twitter) yesterday that really surprised me. Someone suggested that the coaches started Rattler over Haener knowing Rattler would bomb out because they did not want a QB controversy to occur again like what transitioned with Winston, OR, they did not want to destroy Haener's confidence putting him in position to fail.

That really blew my mind. Mostly because I never once suspected either. Second, because we all know starting Rattler as a rookie behind an Oline with injuries is setting him up for failure, and destroying a young QB's confidence early can do a lot of damage to their progress.

Either way, it would mean the organization/coaches believe Haener has a better future.

The main reason I give credence to that post, was because no coach in their right mind would ever start a 5th round rookie QB, on an offense that has been in turmoil, with injuries on Oline, and injured starting WR's, and think he has any capability what so ever of turning the offense around. I if you were to ask me the definition of setting a rookie QB in the NFL up to fail, that would be it.

That seems like a bizarre take in the article. At least I hope it is. “You play to win the game” seems like a better coaching strategy.

X is a floating pile of garbage on the internet.

Am I the only one seeing Haener throw the ball like a middle schooler if it’s over 20yds ? What are y’all seeing because it doesn’t seem like he can make the throws. Rattler hasn’t had the weapons or blocking available to him for us to say “welp he ain’t it”. He also played with less talent against our toughest opponents on the season
No idea what you’re seeing as Rattler is playing like the lesser of the two. Haener is hitting the quick reads, adjusting his arm angle, making accurate throws down field. Rattler doesn’t seem to have good pocket awareness, isn’t throwing it w accuracy, either stands still for a sack or scrambles, and isn’t seeing the hot routes when there’s pressure instead choosing to scramble. I think Rattler has more overall potential but currently Haener gives us the best chance to win. It’s not by a wide margin tho.

Again, as has been discussed AD NAUSEAM, Rattler was determined to give us the better chance to win because of his MOBILITY, which is why you start him behind an o-line with a bunch of injuries.

But we've seen that Haener is more decisive and gets the ball out quicker.

If you cant see Haener is > Rattler than you dont know what you are looking at, The only thing Rattler has over Haener is mobility. Haener has more anticipation, takes better throwing angles, throws more accurately, has better footwork.
I disagree with this take. I have seen Rattler tried to scramble or run. He isn't scaring any defender. Very average speed and indecisive with his feet. Haener, on the other hand, tend to avoid sacks and pressure better with anticipation and quick feet. Pocket presence, Haener has the advantage.
