Revisiting Joe Burrow draft (4 Viewers)

No. The pick that changed the franchise was Burrow. Do you think the Cincinnati offense would be what it is with Dalton throwing to Chase?

Exactly what he said.
Go back and read all of my post about Burrow. I have been very clear about Chase being the x-factor. Think about it; everyone loves Burrow but he only won 2 games his rookie season. 2-7-1 to be exact. Tell me what happened in 2021. I will tell you; Joe Mixon being the primary back and Chase replacing AJ Green. You may believe that it is all quarterback but for the Bengals, Chase turned that offense around.

Looking back I would trade two seasons of drafts plus Davenport and any other development 1st rounder that we have at the time. Damn and I was thinking that at the time Joe was winning the national championship that same night. Think about it. The last few draft we didn't even hitting it except for the new WR this year. Davenport was the worst one.

Did you or did you not post Chase was the pick that turned the franchise around?

I tell people that THIS was the pick that turned that franchise around. I know this board loves Burrow but the Chase pick changed that offense.

Oh, you did.

.

Yes, you go all out to get Burrow. If you keep your 2-7s, you give 3-4 1sts to get the job done. The Bengals knew what they were getting and I don't think they would've traded the pick for anything because if you really paid attention, Burrow showed at LSU what he's doing now.
The Bengals were not trading that pick. In fact, they weren't even returning calls to discuss trading the pick. All of this is a pointless conversation.

if you had a chance to redo the 2020 draft would you do a Ricky Williams trade for Joe Burrow?
Not really a fair question. I didn't know for sure then what I know now. I'm also not an LSU fan so I'm not as emotionally invested in Burrow as most of you are...

My big thing is for this team to look back and realize that trading draft picks left and right and kicking salary cap problems down the road is a leech on your back that keeps you from being flexible and bringing in enough talent to keep all positions in good shape. Another way of saying that is I don't care about having a particular player but I do care about them keeping themselves in a good place to keep the team stocked and capable of winning every year. That isn't hindsight, it is foresight.

What it boils down to is this team has weakened their options to the point where they can't be expected to be particularly competitive FOR 2-3 years away unless they start to pull a few rabbits out of the draft hat in the next two years. That is a big ask for any team.

Considering the fact that the Bengals won 6 more games in 2021 than they did in 2020, while jumping from 31st in points to 7th with the primary changes being adjusting the offense for Chase and Mixon coming back as the primary back, tell me how this is a farfetched statement?

Higgins
2020: 908 yards/6TD
2021: 1091 yards/6TD

Boyd:
2020: 841 yards/4TD
2021: 808 yards/5TD

Green:
2020: 525 yards/2TD

Chase:
2021: 1455 yards/13TD

I know that we all like to make it as though everything is all about the quarterback (especially ones that we "love") but the fact is this isn't always the case. Burrow was a great pick in 2020 but Chase was the game changer. If Burrow turned the franchise around, going 2-7-1 his rookie season before being injured, what did Chase do, when his rookie totals accounted for 6 less touchdowns than the Bengals had for the entire 2020 season and having 930 yards and 11 more TDs than the person he replaced?

6 pages to re-visit something that wasn't even close to being a possibility. I'm very grateful that Swimmer is banned.

Yes, they did. Other facts:
* 2020 was Joe Burrow's rookie year, and only played 10 games because he got hurt.
* The current coaching staff and Burrow inherited an abysmal 2-14 2019 team.
* Between 2020 and 2021, there was a significant improvement in the defense in points allowed: in 2020, they allowed 26.5 points per game; in 2021, they allowed 22.1 points per game. This year, BTW, even better, only 20.1.

Then there is Tee Higgins, who is not that far from Chase, who has steadily improved since being drafted in 2019, because Joe Burrow is throwing the ball to him.

Chase is a great player, and an important part of the Bengals offense, but not the catalyst who turned the Bengals franchise around. That player is Joe Burrow.

The problem with that is if Burrow was the catalyst who turned the franchise around, improvements would have been immediate his rookie season. Also, the coaching staff in place now was the same for the 2019 season.

What isn't mentioned in your post is the fact that the Bengals went from 19.4 points per game in 2020 to 27 points per game in 2021 with Joe Burrow going from #28 in TD rate to #3.
