Rodgers-Cromartie...4.28 40 yard dash' (merged) (1 Viewer)

Cuz if he can run a 4.1 second 40 time, but can't play man, I can't afford another Jason David-style learning curve. Not with a 10 pick. But it doesn't appear that it's an issue.
You think playing man at Tennessee State somehow prepares him significantly better for the NFL then if he played Cover-2 at Tennessee State? Really?

I don't think you understand the position very well.

Its become a cliche that people have subscribed too. Cover 2 = bad...Man = good.

Nevermind that most of Davids problems this year had nothing to do with the scheme and he actually looked his worse when we played Cover 2 (IMO).

I don't think it cements him as the #1 db. What it did was guaranteed him a spot in the top 20. Everyone knew Cromartie would test off the charts at the combine. I don't think anyone really hurt themselves enough to push Cromartie to the top spot. Jenkins ran s 4.38. He is still up there. Mckelvin also ran very well as did Talib. I believe the guy who has the most hype going into the draft will be the first guy taken. I believe that Jenkins will be that guy when he lights it up on his pro-day.

Now I'm worried we might not be in the running to even get DRC. I've wanted him since the senior bowl...what are the chances he falls to us now?

I do! I say playing man at Tenn St. made what he showed today. Do you think he would have had the same showing today had he not played man in college? Watching those players in those drills you could clearly see which player played man coverage vs. zone.

Coming from a man defense gives more security that the player will be able to fit your scheme than trying to convert. How many players never become a man coverage guy because their confidence suffered a blow in the process.

Uh? Yeah?

He's a good athlete. Period. His athletic ability showed. What "scheme" he played in is irrelevant. Either the guy can turn and run or he can't. Period

Really? Who? Let's see the list.

What I think is funny is a lot of people's perception that if a player plays on a "cover 2 team" that that means they never play man during games.

I think we can offically say that this cements his place as the number 1 CB. Whats the downside to this guy? He has the speed, size, and athletic ability. He should be the pick. But I think the Ravens or Patriots might take him now. With all the other CB's theres something you can complain about. With this guy, hes the total package.

I don't think the Patriots value the CB position high enough to justify taking him that high.. That's evident by their letting Ty Law and Asante Samuel walk.. With the way the rules have changed to favor passing offense recently, it makes less sense to put a high value on a CB, and the Patriots use this philosophy.. Look who they have playing corner for them outside of Samuel.. Pretty much no names that they've coached up..

I think the Pats are going to try to move down, still get a quality player, and make up for the lost pick at the end of the first round..

The Ravens, on the other hand, could take him, especially with Harbaugh being a former secondary coach..

And if he's good man coverage that he's disciplined enough to be a good zone back.

The fact that DRC reports he had a great meeting with NE probably means thats not true. They don't pay FA's. Whats that got to do with drafting a CB? Alot of mocks and experts already speculate they'll take Mike Jenkins, and that was before the combine. And after 5-6 years they'll let him walk. He won't sign a 3 year contract like a 3rd round pick (like Samuel).

If they don't pay FA's the money, why are they going to like paying an unproven #7 pick rookie the money?

Like I said, they may take a corner, but I would almost guarantee it's not at #7.. It's just my opinion.. I just don't see it happening..

Or they were hoping they could get him in the 2nd, or by trading down to get more picks

I was amazed at how turning your foot when you plant made such a difference in how fast you came out of your break. Good stuff.
