Ross Jackson’s biggest takeaways from Loomis, Moore and Ireland at the combine (52 Viewers)

People say this, but we also have to keep in mind that it was much more normal to stay all four years when Archie played, and also, Peyton and Eli are Archie’s boys, and they both strike me as the “Aw shucks, gotta listen to dad” types…Arch possibly isn’t getting that same pressure from Coop and may not be as inclined to do what Uncle Archie tells him to do.

He may very well stay, but I just wanted to point out that some different dynamics are at play here.
At the same time though. NIL deals are a different dynamic in this day and age, too...one that could make an athlete more comfortable with staying in college.

Why did you perceive me asking questions as tripping? I'm not a cap connisseur so I don't have legit answers to how. I tend to think the people who are in charge of those things are smarter than me in that aspect so any conclusions I draw are likely to be wrong.

Regardless, I was genuinely just asking questions..here's another one. What point do they have?
oh, i thought you were saying, the "what ifs" in a sarcastic manner. My bad. I did leave it open that i could be convinced as im no cap conisseur either.

That's trusting this FO to draft well and sign good FAs (with what money?)

I have zero faith in Loomis at this point.

But again the chasm between Brees and Carr cannot be overstated, not just in talent but leadership.

2006 Brees and this junk roster could win a division and maybe, maybe win a playoff game.

2025 Carr on the 2006 Saints and we win 6 games.

Wow, this has been hashed out many times before....Brees is a 1st ballot HOFer, probably one of the very few to play at that level, an all timer.....I think he is only 2nd to Brady.....

Carr is an above average starter and no he is not the leader that Brees was, so of course there is a chasm.....

But, I would firmly disagree that 2025 Carr on the 2006 Saints would only win 6 games for the following reasons:

1) The entire offense was relatively healthy through the entire season
2) I think you are grossly underestimating the ability of CSP to get the most out of QB's.....I don't honestly think Teddy or Jameis is better than Carr but CSP sure made it look that way.....

I said "AT BEST"

Which would require hitting on FA, Draft picks, and coaches while missing injuries.

Last I check... We need to rebuild our dline with one of the worst rush defenses in the league. Need 2 starting caliber CBs. Starting Safety. Probably another quality LB. A starting LG, RB, TE, and probably one more WR with Olave being a concussion away from retirement.

On top of a veteran QB, and RB that can't stay healthy and are extremely fragile. Then, you have your 35 year old gadget QB coming off a horrific knee injury.

Like can we just be in a real... The FA that Saints are getting are either probably mid level or injury prone at best.

In a perfect world, they push the cap beyond a sustainable method for a mid team that at best can only get you 10 wins with no little ability to grow from there.

Those 10 win really worked out for the NY Giants and Daboll, right?

Can we get out of this fantasy land of "We magically improve" and make noise. Tell me how they are going to do that while running back the same team as last year with a lot less talent. Then, tell me how they are going to be able to build and maintain a core from there.

We got into that situation where our only option is to hit on draft pick and we drafted Trevor Penning and such that need years to develop.
Its not sneezing at a 10 win season in 2025....its accepting mediocrity at best for the forseeable future by continuing on the same path that landed you there for the last several seasons.

Also, I would like to point out that if Arch didn't have the last name of Manning then it's very likely he wouldn't be mentioned much at all on this board.....he may turn out to be good/great or not, there are no guarantees and he has played very little....

Paw Paw Archie. But sure, there are different dynamics, but those dynamics don't all favor going to the NFL early. You have to add in that Arch is also making a lot of NIL money and his family has a lot of money (including Cooper). He's a Newman grad who grew up in the Garden District who now has NIL deals. He's not hurting for money.

I saw an article today about how this draft might not be as strong because all the NIL deals mean that some highly rated kids that might have normally come out stayed in college because of NIL deals. And I'd imagine that if Arch is good this year, the UT alums would be happy to come up with $3 million to $5 million to get him to stay for a couple more years. If Michigan can pay $5 million for a High School senior. UT would certainly pay that for Arch to stay if he's as good as people think he's going to be.

Also, I would think Cooper and Arch would listen to Archie, Eli, and Payton regarding QB development. And I think one of things they likely know is that too many college QBs are coming out with too few snaps under their belt and the way the NFL is now you won't get the time you need to get the snaps you need in the NFL.

We have no choice. Most folks were still enthusiastic about the new HC and future then Mick comes with is we luv Carr bull jive.

I appreciate your commitment to blaming everything on Mick while knowing that it's highly likely that Moore had significant input in the decision, if not the final say.

Contrary to popular SR belief, NFL teams outside of maybe the top 3 or 4 teams aren't out here with a "14-3 and HFA or bust" mindset.

It's odd to me that a fan would turn his nose up at the prospects of a 10 win season being a goal for a first year HC, especially since 10 wins in our division likely equates to a home playoff game.

Anything can happen in this league.
big yikes indeed

This was immediately obvious to me to be a job security decision. If he (Moore) bottoms out with Carr at the helm, that's not really on him, that's on the cap issues, previous regime, etc. But the optics of rolling with a 5th round QB and then bottoming out puts him at a significantly higher risk of being a one and done. Would I do the same thing if I was him? Probably. Do I think it's the best thing for the team? No.
Not trying to intrude on your convo with Studio, but thanks for sharing this take on Moore’s rationale concerning the QB situation.

I originally thought keeping Carr would be the risky choice in relation to job security, but I see your point and agree.

I hope 2025 is a great season, but if it is not, the heat would more so be on Loomis and Carr if the offense and QB play (or even QB injuries) are issues.

Not sure Moore would override Mickey when it comes to financial decisions, at least not yet.

Chuckles. That happens a lot on this board...when I'm being snarky...people think I'm sincere and when I'm sincere...people think I'm being snarky.
