Rumor- "samuel Said To Be A "done Deal"" (2 Viewers)

rotoworld.com has this prediction by one of it's columnists...I wonder where this started or the prediction came after some inside info that PFT has...

1. Asante Samuel (Patriots) - Samuel was not as effective in coverage in 2007 and is considered a "system player" by some GMs. However, he is experienced in a man-coverage scheme and has elite ball skills. Samuel, who just turned 27, has 19 picks and a startling 58 pass breakups over the last three seasons. He is in search of a ten-year, $100 million contract, which he won't get from the Patriots.

Prediction: Saints - 10 years, $100 million ($24 million guaranteed)
Backloaded or what?

I only remember about 5 plays from the Superbowl and Samuels missing the pick on the Giants last drive to win the game is one that sticks out. I havent seen the Pats play too much otherwise. I hope he is worth the hype if we sign him.

Yeah, but him being in position for a pic is better than our guys being face down in the turf. :hihi:

Backloaded or what?

We have tons now, let's front load it. :0007:

Asante Samuel, Jonathan Vilma, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
= GODLY OFFSEASON

If true.....sigh. I just feel $100 million dollar corners shouldn't drop game ending ints in the Superbowl. Any db can be beat if there is no pass rush, I don't care how good he is.

if the saints had dropped int's i feel they woulda been legtiamate superbowl contenders...... our number 2 cb's have been atrocious, and samuel has proven he can catch a couple of the other qbs passes as well

I'll wait to comment until its a done deal and the $$$ come out

if this is true then it is amazing news! It really would show us that we want to get better he's better in man coverage than everyone eants to give him credit for as well.

Backloaded or what?

Well, Nate Clements' deal is realistically a 6 year, $54 million deal, not the 8 year, $80 million that was reported. Clements will never see the end of that deal, which is basically where all the money is at. I don't know about the Saints potentially locking him up for 10 years (isn't the maximum 7 yrs.???), but the deal will definitely be potentially AT LEAST $10 million per year. So yes, the potential deal would probably be backloaded money that Samuel will never get.

I'm selling once the viewers reach 200!

Ha. I'm selling at 20,000 views. If this turns out to be true, the Walter Thomas thread will pale in comparison to the Asante Samuel behemoth.

And for the record, I like the signing. If nothing else, his ball skills are sorely needed here. Our DB's haven't exactly been Dick "night train" Lane the last few years.

"The asking price for Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel is somewhere between $10 and $11 million per season. The Saints are currently the leader to land Samuel, although that could change. Samuel's price got this high because Atlanta's disgruntled DeAngelo Hall is asking for $10 million. The Giants aren't really interested because they won't pay Hall's price, but there is no doubt Atlanta will trade him for a first-round draft choice."

Or Mr. Parcells is making an early splash. Maybe Loomis was not impressed after the combine and flew directly to florida.Who knows. This is nuts. I have been wanting a top cornerback since deion visited with us in the 90s. I hope this is true.
MM is a top CB.

If this is true, I can't say I'm disappointed.
But does that really mean no DRC?

Nope...I'd say that DRC is still on the Saints radar and I hope he becomes a Saint on draft day, this move would though give the Saints a little more breathing room at #10 if one of the big names drops unexpectedly.

a health MM and AS = 2 good corners. A new FS...and a DT / LB or two and we're golden.

(oh wait, that's half a new defense)
