Saints and Carr deal released $150M over 4 years $100M fully guaranteed (3 Viewers)

Well if Christian D’Andrea doesn’t like the move, I guess we just need to start focusing on the 2024 draft ☹️
I didn’t know the team was at the point of death lol. Yikes.

Sadly I do agree with some of her points. Oline, age of the defense and AK being on the wrong end of his career.

What stands out is that 44mil cap savings in 2026. That’s almost 1/3 of his contract that’s bogus. We can just cut it off.

This just shows you what that 44mil in bogus money can do for optics.

A friend texts me “You gave Derek Carr a way better deal than what Geno Smith just got.”

Not really. If we cut Carr and save the 44mil in 2026, his 4/150 becomes 3/106. Geno just got 3/105.

It’s the same contract but we have a bogus year at the end..which is good because if we want to keep him it buys us time for an extension. If we don’t we just cut him.

This deal reminds me of the scene in the matrix where Neo is dodging all the bullets but in this case he is actually moving really fast to make sure every bullet hits him in the face. Fate saved us from RW and the massage QB in Cleveland but we found a fresh bullet in Carr.

Not saying Carr isnt an upgrade over what we had at the position but I am saying he isnt good enough to win a championship with the current roster so we are paying a ton of money to get eliminated from the playoffs in the best case scenario.
Super Bowl caliber quarterbacks don't fall from trees. True, we don't know if Carr is good enough to take us there, but we know he seems to be the best option available. I really don't know what the saints could have done different and get a better result.

The market is crazy, just look of what Geno got today. I frankly feel more comfortable with Carr's contract compared to Dak's, Geno's, Cousins', etc.

Everyone looks at QBs when they’ve already been proven.
Brees in 06 was an unknown. On a franchise that barely had a winning record.

The segment on NFL Network with LT just now discussed DC to New Orleans. The female commentator (sorry, don't know her name) said she spoke to David Carr and New Orleans had his heart from the start. He said DC spoke to quite a few current players and Drew Brees. Drew still recruiting for the Saints even after retirement.

Not to rehash it, but this is why the “leaning towards the Jets” thing bugged me last night. If that’s all you’ve got as an agent is to leak that for “leverage,” then it’s a weak move. Although judging by Carr’s contract, I guess he really didn’t have anything leverage-wise.

JMO.

Among the things that stood out to me during this process are the fans who seemed dismissive of the relationship Carr and Allen have, and that Carr has spoken candidly about. The idea that the Jets are somehow a much more attractive franchise and opportunity compared to the Saints. That the Carrs, and particularly his wife, couldn't possibly want to live in New Orleans.

Wasn't a better person for Carr to talk to than Brees.

Could not agree more. Never say never, but I feel exactly the same way.

Sure, in the short term Carr will put us on the map again, but I dont think he makes us a championship contender. That’s all that matters.
Guys do u want to start Dalton again and win 6/7 games again and draft 8-10 and draft a young guy who doesn’t pan out? That happens 1 time and we’re back to free agents not wanting to come here and could start a carousel of 2-10 awful qbs in years like bears Cleveland etc

Calling the Saints moribund while the Jets have done literally nothing since Nameth is funny.
Right! I don’t even care if they get Rodgers. Never beating maholmes or burrow. And what will they do in 2 years when he’s done

Exactly. I've made a few posts about the fact that relationships matter even in this business and there are a few posters who laughed it off like they weren't important. I even referenced a book by Jon Acuff called Do Over that discusses changing jobs and how the first job you get after being fired/quitting is because of relationships.
