Being that the Superdome is now an official part of the U.S. Register of Historical Places, it will very likely never be torn down. I have a very hard time seeing a new stadium ever get built in New Orleans. They will just continue refurbishing the dome.

The Superdome, though it doesn't have nearly the same # of years on it, has essentially become akin to Lambeau Field and Soldier Field in terms of historical significance IMO, and neither of those stadiums are ever going away either.

At some point, if a new stadium is ever built, it’ll be where the Dome is. The Saints will probably spend a season or two at Tiger Stadium.

They've been able to add on expansions to outdoor stadiums. They basically built a new stadium around soldier field. We're limited to the space in the superdome shell. We'll see what kind of space they can add by taking ramps out. A new stadium will have to come at some point though. Probably after Gayle.

Yep. Houston learned about that with the Astrodome. Can’t tear it down if it listed. Last time I heard they were discussing converting into a Bass Pro Shops like Memphis did with the Pyramid Arena.

It'll happen either when ownership changes or when the super bowls stop coming. The superbowls are still coming...but at a much slower pace.

The cost of a new stadium dwarfs any economic benefit of a once-every-decade Super Bowl. The city and state do not have the money or population base to build a new stadium, which will have to have PSLs for financing. But the bottom line is that a constantly reburnished Superdome can keep the Saints in New Orleans, and the financial benefits of a new stadium compared to those of the Superdome are relatively small and simply do not justify a new stadium.

We are going to see fewer Super Bowls for several reasons: First, the competition is greater because pretty much every NFL team outside of Buffalo and Cleveland is fighting for one. Second, the NFL pretty much automatically gives a Super Bowl to any city that builds a new stadium. (Minneapolis???) Finally, with L.A. back in the picture and Vegas coming into the picture, there are more cities in the "rotation," and they have (or will have) shiny billion dollar stadiums.

In the end, though, we'll probably see the Super Bowl in NOLA once every decade (as opposed to once every five years). It's the NFL's loss, really.

The upper terrace is extremely hard to clear out because it's only accessible via escalator (turned off) or going down toward the lower terrace. You can't access the ramps from the 600 level until you get to the 500 level.

Now that's going to happen to the more than half of the stadium. Someone please explain how they're going to clear out the 40,000 non-Plaza people?
