Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

If we trade for Adams I will be disappointed. Wide receiver isn't our problem, and trading for $71mm over the next two seasons will be a major problem.
Once again 71mm over the next two seasons is irrelevant.

Both of those years aren't guaranteed. He WILL BE CUT after this year.

Teams don’t disclose each other’s offers, what they have on the table from others, etc.
When trading for players, yes they do. They just do it in private, not in public.

What's the advantage of giving information to the press to give to the interested teams, instead of just giving that same information directly to the interested teams? Every team already knows that a trade is possible.

What information has been leaked to the press that the Raiders wouldn't have directly told the interested teams? Why would the Raiders not directly tell the other interested teams that the Saints are being the most aggressive? What's the advantage of the Raiders leaking that to the press instead of directly telling the other interested teams?

All of the above questions also apply to Adam's agent. You know who tells you that teams are "leaking" inside information to them? The people who are trying to get you to watch their show or click on their links. Do you not see what's obvious with that?

ML actually spoke about this at one point, in respects to the draft.
Loomis was talking about when trading for draft picks. Teams don't have to negotiate with draft picks. Draft picks can't talk to other teams. Negotiating is different when more than one party is involved, like when trading for a player vs trading for a draft pick.

So folks here would be fine with trading a 2nd and more (plus picking up more dead cap space) for a 10 game rental?

This makes less sense by the page.

I think most people don’t think he goes for a second unless the Raiders take on some of that contract.

I’m fine with the Saints making moves to win now though. We have aging stars that just might catch lightning in a bottle and make a run. They’re clearly hungry and bought in right now. I’m not sure the organization even makes the move if they don’t think they can keep Adams for at least another season. As far as a rebuild goes, it’s easier said than done. The panthers have been rebuilding for what seems like a decade now, and they are far from the only example of a team who “wins the draft lottery” and ends up with a QB that isn’t what everyone thought he would be.

Roughly yes.

Keep in mind we would qualify for a 3rd compensation pick if he were to leave and get a certain contact amount.

You'd be trading a 2nd for a 3rd plus a one year rental. You could always get him to resign on a new contract as well.

LOL that's not what's happening here, Why are you not seeing what's happening? ANY team trading for Adams is looking at redoing his contract PERIOD. NOWHERE is it going to be a 10 game rental. the last 2 yrs on his deal WILL be redone by ANY team that gets him

Totally wrong, Adams has 2 yrs left on his deal 25 and 26. If the team that trades for him cuts him after this yr they get NO COMPENSATION. He's not a FA . the only compensation any team would get is if he's a FA and signs with another team

You don't get comp picks for players that are released. You only get them for players whose contract expires or has an automatic void bulit in.

For the record, I am totally opposed to trading for Adams if any draft compensation of note is involved. A second-round pick would be insane. This team, though it has played better than I thought, is not a serious contender because of serious weakness in both lines and overall lack of depth. In terms of talent, we are not a top team. And if the team wants to bolster its roster to make a run in 2024, there are plenty of positions that concern me more than wide receiver.

I agree RJ. We need to focus on O line first and foremost. Not sexy but crucial as evident by our current situation.
