Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (120 Viewers)

Taking Adams full salary this year would have been a really bad idea for the Saints given that it would have mean more can kicking when they are trying to fix the cap a build depth. Adams for a 3rd rounder? Sure do it every time, but when you factor in his salary this year and having to pay him down the road until he is 34 or 35, he's just not the right fit for the Saints right now as a team trying to rebuild it's roster and add depth. If he was 4 or 5 years younger then sure do it and make him the foundation of your WR corps for the next 5 to 7 years.

And those requirements for the 3rd to become a 2nd are hilarious. Maybe he make All-Pro based on reputation, but the Jets aren't getting to the AFC Championship or Super Bowl this year.

They won't though. They'll cut him at the end of the season, so they're only on the hook for the remaining games this season. Of course they could keep him beyond this season, but that wouldn't make much sense.
The cash equivalent value of the 80th pick (first pick in the 3rd round) is around $2.8 million. The Jets are going to pay Adams about $11 million this year and lose that $2.8 miilion pick value. If he plays well, it could go up into the second round raising the pick value. If the team plays well, it also lowers the Jets overall pick values when they are unlikely to make the playoffs anyway.

This is why the Jets are the Jets. I'm glad we didn't make that trade because it could have been even worse for us with all of money shuffling we'd have had to do it.
