Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (4 Viewers)

I feel like All-Pro is more fair than pro bowl. 7 WRs make it. He's not in the top 50 in any category right now. And I don't think Rodgers is going to stop throwing to Wilson and Lazard. There's going to be a target share there.

It is more fair than pro bowl, but once guys make it they tend to stay on unless they really mess up. Maybe he doesn't make it, but even a 3rd seems like too much for the Saints when you consider Adams age, the position this team is in right now, and the financial implications of Adams. If they were 5-2 and playing well, I might feel different about it.

I disagree. That sounds like Pro Bowl but not all-pro. Especially at positions that can be measured statistically like WR.

Agreed. As much as I like Olave, his concussion history is a problem. He probably should retire but if he doesn't you can't give him a long contract.

But, it does free up money for an opportunity to get a bigger WRs to pair with Shaheed. Olave and Shaheed are a bit redundant as finesse guys. Although Olave obviously can do more and run the full route tree.
Big people beat up little people. It's a philosophy we've embraced for a while, specifically under Payton since he was a Parcells disciple. Bigger WR's, bigger DLineman (i hate our new philophsy of guys being smaller on the DL) but we need to get back to that in a way. Bresee was recently quoted as saying he was looking to integrate more power into his passrush.

Until we spend it on a guard from Idaho that missed the half of the 2024 season due to a torn ACL and played DT in 2023, but absolutely killed it at the Senior Bowl at practice that one day and had a crazy RAS grade.

Hopefully the Saints get their hearts set on some big name linebacker and the 49ers draft him one pick ahead and they settle for a Guard who then gets named to three consecutive All Pro teams...

Welp!

Well there ya go! Adams is officially a Jet.

I mostly agree. But I do sometimes wonder if needing/wanting those 6' 6" 280 lbs. DEs is part the reason we miss on so many DEs in the draft. Not many guys are that size and most of them go in the top 5. So they end up having to project how guys that size who are raw will develop. It also seem like guys like that tend to get hurt a lot. Not sure if it's that they are carrying too much weight on their frames or if those long arms and long legs tend to get tangled up with other players.

On a random side note. Penning had the highest PFF grade of his career Sunday. A 80 grade or so

That's great news. If he can keep it up we are set at LT and RT for several years. That makes it a lot easier to fix the rest of the OL while also adding weapons for the offense and trying to find some pass rushers for the defense.

Our record and injuries made this trade a bad move for us

3rd round pick of a wr with rookie contract would be better for us though a higher round pick for a wr depending on the player may be even better

If we were 4-2 and semi healthy and needed a bump it would have been justified
I'm convinced that if we had somehow beat the Chiefs and Carr doesn't get injured....Davante Adams is a Saint right now.

That said, it was the right move to not trade for him now that the season looks the way it does. I still have faith we can climb our way out of this hole but Davante wasn't going to be a savior. And that price tag is just too much when we're not going "All in for a Superbowl" like it appeared was possible after week 3 or so

I think every philosophy involves tweaking. I agree on the planet theory for DT's, however the 6'5 270 lb DL used to be more of a rare occurence, and so it made sense philosophically to put a premium on those guys. Remember back when we used a 6th rounder on Rufus Johnson? That was a time where you might find 3-4 of those guys in the draft, so you took a shot.

Now, they are a pretty common sight, but the "rush specialist" role is now expanding where team would be smart to have a guy who does just that. Those guys come in diff shapes and sizes. Look at guys like Haason Reddick...

I absolutely think there should be a tweak in edge rushers, but not necessarily those dancing bear DT's. Those guys are worth their weight in gold.

Everything happens as it should.

The Saints have actually been very good in the 2nd round, it's the 1st rounds and later rounds that they seem to struggle. Even the first round picks have been better in the last few years (Olave, Breese, Fuaga, and Penning?), especially if Penning continues to play well. Their bigger issue is 3rd to 7th round picks and the general lack of picks which makes it hard to build depth.
