Saints Cap Moves: Derek Carr restructured, Erik McCoy restructured; J. Williams released; cap space is at -$8,543,537 (58 Viewers)

We are in a better place next year to eat $60 million in dead money than we are to eat $50 million in dead money this year (assuming Carr doesn't perform).

Everyone is gonna scream at Mickey, but there wasn't much of a choice here. This was the most realistic way to set up Carr's departure.

And even though it's not a popular position, Kellen Moore wanting a starting QB to work with is understandable.

Great post.

It’s amazing how many people just don’t get this.

That’s why everyone is going to scream at Mickey, he’s chosen to hamstring the team. Moore just ate a crap sandwich of a past coaches bad decision on Carr and now his cap hit next year.
How did he hamstring the team? We will very likely have a QB making a rookie salary next year(or even this year) and are much better positioned to eat his cap hit next year.

If we would have cut Carr this year wouldn’t that have given another team the opportunity to pick and sign him for a more reasonable amount thus offering some relief from the cut this year?

Players should never take a pay cut the only rare instance should be if they are at the very end of their career and they just want one more season and the only way to get that year is to basically buy it with salary.

Their windows to earn are so small if you have been given a contract you should never cut your earnings.

As for Carr the team should have cut bait this year and moved on so we can start growing and move forward and Carr should stick to his guns and get every cent he is owed.
