Saints don’t think Mark Ingram will be 100 percent when camp starts (2 Viewers)

I’ve been amazed at the misfortune that seems to befall whoever the Saints put in the backfield over these many years of following the team. Chuck Munchie was traded the year after he finally cracked a thousand yards. George Rogers was awesome, but couldn’t resist his addictions. Iron Head never lived up to his potential until he left town. Dalton Hilliard made the Pro Bowl, and promptly blew out his knee. Ruben Mayes did similar. Lorenzo Neal came out of nowhere to dominate a game, and broke his foot the same day, IIRC. Mario Bates, Troy Davis, Vaughn Dunbar, and a few more I’m probably forgetting or blocking from my memory never really took charge of their opportunity. Deuce was probably the most durable of the bunch, and he missed two years due to torn ligaments. Ricky Williams never missed a game in college, yet never finished a season until his last in New Orleans. Reggie Bush just couldn’t get it together to be the player he was capable of being. Ivory shows great vision and burst, and then hurts his foot. Pierre seems to be plagued by nagging and prolonged leg issues. Ingram is following the same pattern. If one wants to believe in curses, I’d say being a New Orleans Saints running back is as close to one as you’ll see.

I have a novel suggestion. Lets split carries between Ivory/Ingram in whatever way Vitt and Carmichael think is best for the team. That seems like a pretty good idea in my book. :hihi:

Watching Earl Campbell on youtube and Ivory actually is a little similar with his speed and power combination. Ingram can take his time and actually EARN some playing time while Ivory gets the bulk if the carries.

Easy now. Thats a lofty comparison. Up to this point, Ivory has been a career backup. It amazes me that after all we have seen over the years, people still don't consider PT our best RB option. People constantly want to put someone else in his spot and he consistantly beats them out of it.

According to Vitt, Ingram, who had arthroscopic knee surgery 10 days ago, won’t be ready to fully go when the team starts training camp this summer. He expects him to be up to full speed by the start of the season, but Jeff Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune ...

Jeff Triplett ??

PT is our best back. To me Ivory is a dominant player if on another team though.

Ingram is a long shot at having an effective season at this point. Prior to having his knee scoped, he had just started running only as recently as a month or two ago.....................

in a SWIMMING POOL!!! Ingram is longs way off.

Ivory is our guy. Make Ivory the focus in training camp, work him, get him stronger, and the man will come out in SUPER BEAST MODE.

Starting to think drafting rb's in early rounds isn't a good idea.. Hence PT!

You would be absolutely correct.

To give up a 1st and 2nd round pick for a RB is pretty insane in today's NFL.

The injury bug was a concern coming out of college and it's already biting us in the backside. Which makes the reach to trade for him in that manner all the more questionable.

Imagine two more high quality defensive players on this team instead. Big swing and a miss potentially.

If we would have had a 1st in this past draft, Goodell would have taken it away... PERIOD.

I'm not saying trading for Ingram was brilliant, but it's too early to give up on the kid... and the draft pick argument stinks.

I agree with the not picking RB's in the first round unless they are a Adrian Peterson type back. If we wouldn't have traded back into the first round to get Ingram we could have gotten DeMarco Murray (I think the Cowgirls got him in the 3rd).

I'm not worrying. Our running back position is the best in the league. Between PT, Ivory, and Sproles. Ingram can miss as much time as he needs to come back.

I agree with this but considering what we learned in 2010 about needing to run the football; I can't second guess the decision. If he were healthy, we would all be celebrating the decision. The good news is that by all early accounts, Ingram is a solid NFL back when healthy and a nice compliment to our stable. In retrospect, we would have likely lost our first rounder for this year anyway so the Ingram trade ended up being a solid decision on both fronts.
