Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (36 Viewers)

I wish him the best. I hope he gets a chance to compete for a backup role and develops into a strong NFL qb. But he is far from being a capable number 2 right now. I hope our new coach brings in a young gun that will push Carr and maybe become a solid starting qb next year.

I think, given the circumstances of last year, that it was almost impossible to make such an evaluation.....so I guess I kind of disagree, I don't think we know what we have in Rattler just yet.....

Right, I don't think I've seen anyone say that Rattler is definitely the guy. I think most of us would just like to see what he looks like with a full off season of playing with the 1's and 2's not the scout team to see what he could be. Giving up on young players in favor of aging vets seemed like the hallmark of the team under DA. I hope that tendency is gone.

Agreed. I want to see an open QB competition this year.....whether it's Carr vs Rattler or someone else....

I wonder if Rattler can make all of the throws that Kellen Moore requires?

The same can be said for Haener or many others. We need to remove the back and gold glasses and target a good young qb to bring in that can push Carr. Last season Carr had zero competition and could take games off without worrying about his position.

That's easier said than done and with as much money as we have tied up in Carr I don't see how that's possible. Maybe draft a lottery ticket in the mid-late rounds in the draft because there isn't a QB worth it early on. I was listening to podcasts on the Senior Bowl and for all the hype that Dart was generating from the media scouts the NFL team scouts were much harsher.

That's the thing. Rattler is the lottery ticket. We just don't even know if we've won or lost yet. Out of necessity, he did more than any other rookie QB the Saints have ever had. Should we get another lottery ticket? Absolutely we should. We should do that every year until we have our guy.

What I think we have right now is some differences in where we are and where we should be going. Some of us want to do what needs to be done to rebuild even if that means not being very good in 2025 so that we can be much better in 2026 onward. And others seem to want to try to nurse things along, avoid the rebuild and be competitive in 2025.

Now, I won't tell anyone how to be a fan, but my preference is to get the dirty work out of the way as much as possible in 2025 so that we can build a sustainable future going forward. I don't want to postpone the rebuild anymore.

I'm sure he can. Rattler has an elite arm. Stronger than Hurts and probably stronger than Dak. He has the ability to throw every pass necessary to play in the NFL. But, he does need to work in his timing and ball placement.

Get him an online and he should be able to hone in all throws better without fearing death every passing snap/down.

I agree we need to draft someone, maybe not early, but hopefully Moore can scout qb talent. I just believe Carr needs competition and a solid backup, right now we have neither.

And I'm not sure that any QB in this draft, other than Ward, is a better prospect than Rattler. And we are not in a position where it makes sense to spend a lot of money on a backup QB.

If they find a QB in this bad QB class that they think might be better than Rattler, then I'm fine taking one, but I'm not sure there is one.
