Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (43 Viewers)

Let’s see what happens in OTAs and training camp. Right now, Carr is better. Now that Rattler has actual experience, that may change. Although it’s a team game, and quarterbacks aren’t the only factor, the number of games won with Carr as QB versus the number of games won with Rattler at QB is a statistic hard to dismiss.

I would say that is just one factor in why he is not liked. His whole career he has never been a beloved guy. If you listen to big podcasts like Pardon My Take, he has been the butt of the joke for years. If you watched him on Hard Knocks, he was very cringey.

Now he comes into NOLA. He’s not involved in the community much from what I’ve seen. Football wise, he is making mistakes and noticeably showing up his teammates (McCoy, Olave, etc.). His head coach is not holding him accountable and enabling this attitude of Carr’s. Then you have Mike Thomas. Say what you will of Mike Thomas, but that dude gave his heart to the city.He spent free time hanging out with kids in the hospital. He did everything he could to get Drew Brees another Super Bowl. When he started calling Carr out, that just added more to the pile.

Sometimes I feel bad for Carr, because the hate from some fans is too much. But some of the negative attitude he has received from fans is not without reason.
How about these ?

Can the Saints get out from under this contract in 2025?

This would be outstanding for us to have cap space in order to be able to rebuild with our new HC!
The no-trade clause makes a trade very hard to do

That last option. Sit him down and let him know he can have a trade or have a seat and waste a year of his career. Expensive backup if he stays, but he’s not the future.
Yes , let's cut our nose off to spite our face SMH

One of the biggest issues with DC's contract and future is that the decision has to be made before 3/13 when the new yr starts. I doubt we find a trade partner before then

I would not be surprised to see Carr either agree to a trade or be cut with a June 1 designation. While the team has to pay for his roster bonuses regardless, he is only guaranteed $10 million more in new money. He will likely want to land somewhere where more can be made in new money long term. It won't help him if he is being demoted a new coach while the team is in transition. It's being said that the team will be patient with that new coach while the roster gets squared away. That would likely mean some roster upheaval with some bigger names going away. Veteran players like Jordan and Demario are more valuable as player coaches at their positions than someone like Carr.

Is the question of how quickly we address the cap a Mick or new HC decision?

Obviously we're not privy to those conversations, but I can't see the roster getting addressed without an aggressive cap fixing plan. It's going to take a Broncos (2024 $91m) / Falcons (2022 $80m) / Bucs (2023 $81.5) style clean up. But it's also shows it's not impossible to be competitive while doing so if the proper choices are made with the rest of the roster. Both the Broncos and Bucs made the playoffs during their cleanup. In reality, we're more in the position that the Falcons were having come off of a long run with Matt Ryan and are going to eat a bunch more cap money because of the mistake that Kirk Cousins was. It's very much similar to our Brees / Carr situation. We both even have 2nd year QBs with unknown ceilings. Regardless, the Broncos and the Bucs are both cap compliant for 2025 and the Falcons are, for now, closer than we are. I want to beat them in that race.
