Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (17 Viewers)

Here is how i see it. Who was more productive at QB with the same players or lack thereof Derek Carr or Spencer Rattler?? Wasn't Rattler 0-6? Say what you want about #4 but he's the best QB we have right now!
You do not overcome 11 years of starting QB experience in 6 games when you were 3rd on the roster in training camp and running the scout offense. I didn't see Carr being 11 years of experience and $39 million a year better than Rattler. Moderately better under those circumstances, but not enough.

For those that don't remember the kinds of things Rattler can do, here is a nice highlight video of him this season. No, it doesn't show his bad plays and his errors. It shows his strong plays, but there are quite a few of them.

He's already got more pocket awareness than Carr. Side effect of playing behind an awful OL in college with only one real receiving option and not much of a threat at RB.

I'm not saying this to bag on Carr, but he doesn't seem to have the feel for the pocket you'd expect for an 11 year vet. Rattler has to work on dropping backwards instinctively when rushers are coming at him, but he seemed to be working to break that habit when he came in in relief of Haener after that legendary first half Haener put up against the Commies.

I just don’t see it. I think his ceiling is Case Keenum-ish.
Respect your opinion but I want to see more. Understand he was a rookie. Give him a chance to see how this coaching staff handle to teach him. I have seen bad quarterback plays from rookie first rounder throughout my 40 years of watching football that with a little time some have turned out to be great.

He has NFL starter talent, and absolutely no give up on him. These are the 2 things I know for sure about Spencer. The 2 questions that he needs to answer are…. Can he learn and play within an offense….? And given some blocking and talent, can he make good decisions and distribute the ball?

We have not been able to get the answer to those up to this point. Because he was a rookie playing with backups.
He has proven that time and again in college by being the only spark on offense for the Gamecocks, and when he had talent with the Sooners, he was a complement to the playmakers around him.

Rattler has proven (at least to my amateur eyes) the ability to lead an offense; those same intangibles he had in college translate to the pro game.

A rookie that was at the bottom of the depth chart in camp and worked as the scout team QB during the season until Carr got hurt. Think about what that means. He had to come in a play with guys he mostly had never really played with or hadn't played with in months and did so on a few days notice. Even still, he looked like an NFL QB in that first game.

No idea about how Rattler's career will play out but I don't think we should be putting a ceiling on it just yet. I think he's got a lot of things going for him and, all things considered, he played pretty well as a rookie. He may not be a high quality NFL starter after a few years, but so far, based on what I've seen, there's no evidence to rule it out.

With what we've seen he may be a brock purdy. Superstars all over and he's in Superbowl, year later with over half the stars put, he's not. Most these QBs still need a good team around them.

He could very well be Sam darnold back there....

That's what some inside posters have been saying. The big question is does Moore feel the same.

We have to rework Carr's contract pretty much no matter what to be able to do anything in FA, re-sign our guys or even sign the draft class. Can still make him a June 1st cut though, basically give him a lil money in a restructure and free up our cap then make him a June 1st cut. Yeah he gives us our best chance to win this year but is that even what we want if Moore has job security this year?

Moore has worked with 2 mobile QBs and a running QB. Rattler fits the mobile QB, but with insane arm talent. He doesn't quit and is a baller. Teams can rally around a guy like that, and from what we've seen out of Moore, he'll build an offense around the QB's strengths whoever it is. If it's Rattler and we don't have to use more draft capital trying to find a QB, then LFG! I want to see the new era of the Saints under Moore.

I can see how that comparison can be made. I really am looking forward to seeing how hard he works and how much of a jump he can make in year 2. Assuming some of the rumors that they may trade Carr actually do happen and we trade Carr Why see what we have with Rattler. Maybe have Moore and the staff working with him who knows?

It would be nice if Rattler turned out to be more than just another back up that fails as a starter because if he can take the reins, it would be huge for the progression of the team, especially through the rebuilding (or whatever you want to call it) years.
