Saints expected to be very interested in former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [ Rapoport: Interview to be early next week] (106 Viewers)

For the longest time no starting QB had won a Super Bowl with 2 different teams. Then Manning did it and Brady after that. Just because something never happened doesn't mean it never will.

Let's be honest with ourselves, Aaron Rodgers made McCarthy, not the other way around. Matt Lafleur comes in after McCarthy and the Packers got better.

McCarthy goes to Dallas with a much more talented roster (excluding QB) and gets whooped on often when his team plays against a top 10 nfl coach.

That's not a good sign.

We're aiming for mediocrity here instead of swinging for the fence and getting a coach that can out coach opposition. As I've said before, McCarthy should be viewed as a last resort.

You posted this yesterday and it's a false narrative because Haslett was the HC who decided who would start, not McCarty.

Beyond that, it was almost 20 years ago and since then McCarty has won a Super Bowl, been in 4 NFC Championship Games, been in the playoffs 12 of 18 years, and won 174 NFL games (.608 win percentage).

So, yes, I recall what went on with Brooks and Delhomme, but it wasn't McCarty's decision and even if it was, it's irrelevant given the things that have happened in the last 20 or so years.

Oh, and when he was healthy, Brooks was a better QB than Delhomme. But, Delhomme should have started those last 3 games because Brooks was not healthy and could not play to his usual level.
Not true brother. Haslett was a defensive coach and leaned on McCarthy for all the offensive stuff. He was loyal to McCarthy so loyal they both got axed. It is not a false narrative. If so tell me what’s false cause putting it on Haslett ain’t it. I’m sorry if I double posted it but there are like 3 threads on McCarthy with a ton of pages. If you were around back then and watching then you know that there was no way in Hell Brooks shouldn’t have been pulled. If it’s not a problem to not make the playoffs then I digress but personally I want the Saints in the tournament every year! This is definitely the most crucial hire that this organization has seen since Haslett and McCarthy were axed. If you experienced those final years it was a terrible time to be a Saints fan. I was a season ticket holder then and the games in Tiger stadium were horrible. I attended 1 game in San Antonio. I appreciated them letting us play there but at that time the rumor was that Mr B was moving the team there. It was just horrible and all that stuff happened under Haslett and McCarthy was the OC and the buck stopped with Haslett cause his title was Head Coach but I’m telling you Haslett was a DCoordinator by trade and if McCarthy told him to keep Brooks in, he was going to keep him in come Hell or high water! So, sorry for the double post but what I said was not a false narrative. I been around a long time here. I started when this was Iron Era. That doesn’t really matter but I don’t post a lot at all. I mostly read and I only post when I think something is important. I think this decision is so important that a mistake may take this franchise 5-10 years to recover. We have been there and done that with the McCarthy guy and when you are too big headed to play the correct player and that decision cost you the playoffs, that’s not a guy I want running the show. Sorry again if I double posted.

And many thought that Brees made Payton, but it turns out that Payton is a very good coach on his own. And Rodgers hasn't won a Super Bowl since McCarthy left. On the other hand McCarthy turned Dak into a much better QB.

Truth is that every coach needs a good QB to make him look good. Andy Reid is a great coach who got to the Super Bowl in Philly, but it took Pat Mahomes for him to win one in K.C.

Denver fans PO'd they got a retread in SP... KC po'd they got that old retread Andy Reid....

Turns all Andy Reid needed was a better QB then McNabb. And Sean only needed a GM that would support him in getting his next franchise QB.

But Reid and Payton never had a mutiny. They never had players wanting them gone. They never had front officials saying they "basically quit on their team". And they don't consistently get out coached by good coaches. McCarthy has all of those things.

Randy Mueller, Mickey Loomis and Mike Mccarthy. Trying to resurrect the dynasty that was the 2001-2003 Saints. What a time to be alive that we want to relive those great memories.

Mickey Loomis is trying to make being a Saints fan miserable.
Thank God the Saints fans who went through all that are finally showing up to this thread. I was starting to think that maybe they all had left! I can’t understand how any Saints fan would want to go back through that same crap! Thanks for the post bro!

But front office officials never claimed that Andy Reid consistently gets out coached. Neither Payton. Also turns out that Payton and Reid never had players wanting them fired. McCarthy did. We keep comparing McCarthy to Reid and Payton and he's simply nowhere near their level.

And the Packers, although not winning another Superbowl yet after McCarthy, have remained a dominate, top NFL team, with and without Rodgers. The Cowboys get laughed at, alot. Cause their bad. Cause their coach is good at getting out coached. Or was, rather.

Yes, I'll take the 2006 Sean Payton prototype, which compares to the best young coaches in the game today and totally fits the Saints current entropic culture. Get me a fresh young mind, hungry to win and earn.

Mike is a lazy and safe hire from yesteryear. How does he relate to and inspire the young players today for a shared mission? How is he in any way a culture fit? He's got the same befuddled body language as Dennis, who was a skinny retread.
Exactly!!!!!!! We cannot afford to take a chance on some dude that couldn’t see that he had a Super Bowl QB on his roster and he wouldn’t put the guy in for nothing!!!!

I hope they hire McCarthy because some of you guys are ready to jump off a cliff, lmao.

Then when he leads the team to winning seasons and playoffs, I can laugh some more. :9:

That "mutiny" was lead by Aaron Rodgers who is a giant head case. You can't blame McCarthy because his QB went crazy. And that crazy QB hasn't won a Super Bowl since McCarthy left. So who needed who to win a Super Bowl?

I am amazed at the amount of sheet people will make up and like to justify not hiring a good head coach instead of just swinging for the fences on an unknown coach.

It's okay to say McCarty is a good coach, but he is kind of old and I want someone younger and more dynamic who could flame out but also might be great for 15 years. You don't have to make up sheet about McCarthy to justify your position.

Can you interest him in

I'm with ya but I blame Haslett not McCarthy for that.
Not playing Delhomme in the late 2002 game against Tampa was inexcusable. I think Haslett coached like a tight butt all the next 3 years
