Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [McCarthy will interview early next week] (75 Viewers)

He has moved up to number one on my chart, which means nothing, I know. LOL

The guy wins. I understand he has not won more than 1 championship, but neither has SP who had a top 5 QB for years. I want a coach who knows how to build and shape and organization and implement a plan that leads to getting us to the dance every year with a chance. This organization needs consistency and Mike would bring that no questions asked.

Exactly. Too much luck is involved in winning it all. That’s not a fair bar to judge a coaching candidate by for sure. It’s about “Can this candidate get us in consistent position to take advantage of the potential playoff luck” for me.

Read his next tweet.

New Orleans will indeed have the hiring edge, because they will move quicker in this process.
He is a Bears' blogger, so probably just being pessimistic or cautious.

No Saints fan has been able to explain the difference between Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy and every Saints fan would have wanted Payton back. They have the same career arc lol. I just don't get it.

I don't get what's so bad about McCarthy when he's coming off a solid run with a Cowboys team that won't ever win anything until Jerry Jones dies.

I pretty much agree but I think the concerns probably come down to McCarthy losing two head coaching jobs and then perceptions about personality between the two coaches. Payton has the more outwardly dynamic personality and some people view that as important.

McCarthy is a winner with a well-established track record.

The only reason the Cowboys won that many games under McCarthy is because of Dan Quinn and his defense. The offense has been terrible outside of a few games where they beat up on sub .500 teams. That’s supposed to be McCarthy’s calling card. That’s a red flag IMO.

A salient point, along with the Cowboys really regressing this year, even when Dak was healthy......

BUT, I still think he is the "safest" choice, his track record speaks for itself, his teams are in the playoffs more than they are not and he has got tons of experience....the unknown is can he handle the full control thing, I can't remember if he did it in GB honestly, we know he had his hands tied with JJ in Dallas.....

That said, I still want to take a chance on a younger offensive mind that would be here longer potentially, still want Joe Brady....we will see what happens....

2nd down and 3. Carr throws it 30 yards for a low percentage pass. 3rd down and ten. Carr checks it down for a three yard pass. I am still pissed at the hospital balls he has thrown. I hate how his percentage goes up when we are losing in the fourth quarter. Eric McCoy almost beat the breaks off of him last year because he cannot decipher protection. Then blamed his Offensive line. When he hung Olave out last year when he was not even in the progression. I knew then I hated this dude. Then he is smug. Go look at the tape. He is not taking a pay cut. He is not serious. McCarthy will bring very respectable Defensive players. He will bring Cooper Rush over from Dallas for 3-5 Million Dollars. He will rebuild it. The idea of Derek Carr staying here makes me sick to my stomach. Get out of Salary Cap hell. Go get Arch next year
The best way to get out of salary cap hell is for Carr to stay on one more season, no extensions or anything and cut him after next season. Cutting him now makes very little difference.

And sure, Carr has his flaws, but he's the best option we have unless Rattler makes a huge improvement this offseason.

McCarthy isn't bringing Rush here. Certainly not for peanuts. And how are you gonna pay him? You aren't gonna have the cap space to sign him if you cut Carr.

Agree and I think that's a fair take.

The way I frame the distinction is that I'd go into next season feeling more excited with one of the young OCs (largely because of the unknown potential) but more confident with McCarthy.

McCarthy alienated his way out of Green Bay, and he did little with Dallas' talent when it mattered. He's a retread. He won a Super Bowl with a generational QB after we did, which was a long time ago. Dak's ceiling with McCarthy is set in stone which is probably why they have to move on from McCarthy in Dallas. If Mickey rescues this guy like he rescued Derek out of Vegas, the Mickey brainrot is worse than currently assessed. If he falls for McCarthy's availability without waiting for playoff assistants to free up, then God help us all.
