Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [McCarthy will interview early next week] (69 Viewers)

After listening to Loomis presser, it feels like a guy like McCarthy would be at the top of the list. Looks like we will be cleaning house on the coaching staff.
I hope they do clean house, no matter which candidate they end up hiring.

Well, half the house, since no moves will be made in the front office.

I think he's a solid choice. Not my first choice, but I'd probably have him 3rd or 4th on my list.

That said, his career arc as HC is eerily similar to Payton's. We could do a lot worse, so I'd be ok with him as coach. Certainly not the exciting choice, but his track record is solid.

Does he bring Mike Zimmer with him? That would be kinda cool. Mike McCarthy and Mike Zimmer. I know it was a down year for them. They still won 7 games with Diggs injured, Bland and Parsons early in the season. Do you think he poaches Al Harris from Dallas to run the Defense? This could get really interesting.

He won a SB in Green Bay and managed to win and go to the playoffs in Dallas with Jerry Jones as his GM.

I'm warming to the idea, and I would still prefer an offensive-minded guy over a defensive one.

There are people who want to fully separate from the SP years and start fresh, but they're probably going with familiarity.

Knowing Jerry, he may very well just promote Zimmer. Seems like his kind of movie.

I really didn't think he would be an option, but if he comes here I think he can get us into the playoffs quickly.

McCarthy is an offensive guy. He was our Offensive Coordinator during the Haslett years.

He's not a bad coach or anything. He's pretty good with the players and scheme is solid enough.
Still, he's not the guy I would want when we are heading towards a total rebuild...that is the danger of Loomis making this hire and still trying to be within a 'win now' window. We all saw what a house of cards this roster was--and it's only getting older and more stagnant with aging veterans that we are forced into keeping or re-structuring. It's time for a younger HC to lead and build while we take our medicine for a few years.
What makes you think for one second that Loomis is doing a total rebuild?
