Breaking! Saints fired Dennis Allen (8 Viewers)

He's been a part of the organization for over a decade. Of course he will be missed on a personal level. Again, you're looking for fire where there ain't no smoke.

There is smoke. Gayle herself interviewed players last week privately. Gayle herself fired Allen. Loomis has been an apologist spokesperson for Allen for 3 years.

Gayle, in the letter saying she made the decision, while Loomis continued excuses for Allen and saying he will be missed should certainly be "eye brow raising".

How many times in the NFL has the owner stepped up, fired a head coach and kept the GM the following season? I bet, its terribly low.

You don't really believe that Gayle or Loomis wrote those press releases from the Saints do you? I'm sure Greg Bensel wrote both statements so neither is intended to go against the party line.

If these were off the cuff comments at a press conference or interview maybe things would slip out. But not in an official press release from the team.

We aren't even coming close to the playoffs, but if Rizzi wins 3 or 4 games, we hurt our draft status. With DA, we likely would've had a top 3 pick in next year's first round. Now, we may not.

We don't need to jump the gun on any hires, and, instead, we need to hire Ben Johnson as soon as his season is over - if we have to wait til February to make that hire, so be it. If we have a top pick and give him a good contract, he'd be very tempted to come in, draft a QB1, and rebuild the team as he sees fit. He also needs a lot of control of draft picks (personally, I think Loomis should be fired at the end of the season and Jeff Ireland should be the GM). Assuming we only win 1 or 2 more games this season (or none hopefully), we'll have a top-2 or 3 pick in the draft. Despite what some think, we should then draft Shedeur Sanders or Quin Ewers or (3rd choice) Cam Ward - Sanders is a unique, special QB. Ewers has as much talent as any QB in the country. Ward has a ton of special qualities. Let's allow BJ to come in and re-build this team.

Archie and Dave Wilson are the only two 1st Round QBs we've ever drafted (Wilson was in the supplemental draft). My personal preference is Sanders, but I'd be very excited with Ewers or Ward too.

Honestly no clue, I got my info from a third party specialist, no clue how the saints Drs will handle it

I'm also sure Greg Bensel asked each one what to write which explains why the statements from each were so different in nature.

He deserves a chance to be a defensive coordinator again somewhere and he stabilized our defense after the disastrous mid 2010s. But the man's not a head coach and he never should have been ours.
Sometimes you're Wade Phillips/Norv Turner, great coordinator, not so great coach

There is no shame in that

I disagree. If you kept him, the last shred of brotherhood left in the locker room would have been lost and players would absolutely not want to come here and many of the good ones would leave as soon as they were able to get out of their contracts and start making demands to be released, etc.

Gayle deserves some credit here. It’s obvious to me and maybe others Mickey didn’t want to do it.
Loomis is the GM, so he cant fire the coach without the owners permission, so it is ultimately up to Gayle and judging by her making the call she does have her finger print on the organization and is watching what's going on and she was fed up and ready to make a move and sent the call to Loomis and Loomis did his job as the GM and relieved Dennis Allen his duties.

She caught a lot of flack, but it was ultimately her who put Dennis on the guillotine. I'm curious about Rizzi though and to see if this team can get a grasp. I don't agree w/ those saying this is a bottom 5 roster. Hardly, but I do think it needs another 7-8 man draft class

Ben Johnson does not want this job.

We are NOT a competitive job for top tier HC candidates.

We have: No cap space, aging roster, no young pro bowl caliber players, no QB for the future, and Olave might be retiring/one hit away from retirement.

We have many years of tanking ahead of us and need to find our Matt Pratica before we can find our Dan Campbell.
