Saints head coach Kellen Moore introductory press conference, media updates, February 13, 2025 (3 Viewers)

As we both know, people often see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear.
You're right about that. To me it sounded like non-committal at first then, lets take whats good thats already here, including Carr, and build from it. People need to understand, that us almost beating Philly was a HUGE respect builder to KM. Mike Mccarthy forced his way out of Dallas to coach the team that dismantled and embarrassed his Cowboys, when they were double digit favorites AT HOME. We have a talented team, when healthy, PERIOD. He realizes that the talent we have now has a short shelf life. Im glad we're going to try and win now.

His answers to the Derek Carr questions are a very polite ‘no’.
"Looking forward to working with" is a polite "no" to you?

The impression I got is that he's open to Carr as a starting QB, but he actually has to meet with him and have a long, detailed discussion before he and Carr can make a definitive decision. If Moore and Carr both decide to give it a go, then Loomis and Carr's agent have to have reach an agreement on adjustments to Carr's contract.

One of the things that I really like about Moore from the press conference is that he seems to understand the things he can and can't control and he's wise enough not to make a verbal commitment to the press about things that haven't been finalized and that he can't completely control. That's very encouraging to me.

Just dropping this here as everyone tries to put things under a microscope....

I honestly genuinely just think Moore doesn't know yet what he's going to do there and has to do more deep-dive work first, in collaboration with his coaches and personnel men...this isn't a decision you can just make on a whim.

You have to first make sure you believe in the alternative QB option(s), and there is also a financial direction component to consider.

Heck, KEEPING Carr and freeing up his dollars could very well be necessary to get the guy we want for all we know. There is a lot of work to do.

I think he knows what he is doing at QB or has a very good idea about what he wants to do and needs to work with Loomis to make it happen. I don't think he revealed anything about that plan today. But it had to be the maybe the most important question he was asked in his interviews. Even Orlovsky ended his congratulations tweet with "go find your QB". I would think that means he and Orlovsky know that first time HCs succeed and fail mostly on whether they find their QB or not.

It took several years of committing to that philosophy to eventually dominate the trenches in the Super Bowl. Top 100 picks under Sirianni:

Six players on the front seven
Three OL
Three DB’s
One offensive skill guy (Smith)

They seem to go after their skill players in free agency while seeking a steady flow of talent from the draft to their front lines.
Didnt they draft DLine as well, Jalen Carter @9

Any thoughts on this?

I think it could go either way, but for me, nothing was really gleaned from the PC.

I think it's a non-committal answer. Honestly, if it was set in stone that Carr is his QB, he would have said that. My guess is that he sees Carr as the QB for a year while he looks for and develops a young QB for the future.

Raymond missed the fact that Kellen "looks forward to working with Carr"

Starts at 12:59.
This doesn't sound like a coach who is about to dump his QB!

Derek is a tremendous QB in this league. I have so much respect for him. The journey he has been on. He is a starter in this league. He is a premier player in this league. He has had a great journey. Going from Fresno State to the Raiders & now here. I'm really excited to team up with him and go through this process."

I wouldn’t mind an equal or better version of Jalen Carter at #9. 😃.

Well, yes. But keep in mind, they essentially got a freebie #1 overall draft pick at the pick they got him at, due to Carter's off the field incident.

They were the team that decided to assume the risk, and it appears they won the gamble.

I think it could go either way, but for me, nothing was really gleaned from the PC in this regard. I truly believe he indeed wants to go through the process.

I think the process also entails the FO figuring out what is actually possible given Carr’s contract. If they can’t trade him or they can’t figure out a way to be cap compliant and give Moore everything else he wants without restructuring Carr, then Moore has to live with Carr on the roster. Why make that relationship worse by implying in any concrete way that he doesn’t want to work with him? This was a diplomatic response given the uncertainties around Carr’s contract and the QB options available.

i see that he's jacked up not nervous. (he does college football clinics in auditoriums he's not some nervous rookie speaker) He's about speed and efficiency and you can tell his mind works fast and efficient. No cute diversions and long stories about himself and this and that. He seems that its all about the team operating fast and efficiently. And his body language suggests, "Can we just get into the football meetings and the film room and lets get this thing going, i was born to do this, I'm ready, lets do this"
This was my first thoughts when during his opening statement he had alot of “uh”s mixed in there. That’s something very smart people do to keep their mind from running faster than their mouth.
