Saints making strongest push for Anquan Boldin??? (1 Viewer)

Old, washed up WR. He's been "done" for years now. Work with the young guys we have now. Boldin, no thank you!

Really who's our 4th WR? Who's our vet presence in that group?

789 yards last year from the 49's, who had one of the worst qb problems in the NFL last year.

vs Coleman - 454 yards from one of the best QB's in the game.

Who are all these young stud WR's that will get cut?

Saints make an offer to veteran receiver Anquan Boldin

It’s been a fairly quiet offseason for free agent wide receiver Anquan Boldin, but with training camps two weeks away, Boldin may be getting close to finding a team.

Of the teams that have reached out to Boldin, the Saints are making the strongest push to sign him, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. If Boldin goes to New Orleans, he’ll reunite with Saints receivers coach John Morton, who was previously Boldin’s position coach in San Francisco in 2013 and 2014.

Meh. We seem to love signing guys at the end of their careers that have lost speed/skill. It's not bad if it works, but outside of Watson, I don't ever remember it really working. The list of failed experiments is long. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope so. Either way, it shouldn't be a big penalty if we do sign him. I can't imagine he's demanding all that much.

Until Rob Ryan we had a long history of bringing in vets and making them all stars just ask shockey, sproles, vilma, sharper and watson.

Payton does like to have a few veteran receivers in Training Camp to show the young guys how hard you have to work to stay in the NFL. Boldin could very well be this year's Josh Morgan. Boldin is a lot like Marques Colston was last year - not much left in the tank but an excellent mentor for the young players.

If that's "done" I want to know what "undone" is. 800 yards from Kaepernick and Gabbert is not done. He's been known to keep in really good shape too, so I doubt he's fat and slow all of a sudden. He immediately replaces Colston's veteran leadership and productivity if he hasn't fallen off a cliff.

I love it. Boldin is big, physical, and tough. He's basically a small tight end. He'll bring an attitude to our offense. What's not to like?

In a horrific 49ers passing offense, he has 3,030 yards and 16 TDs in the last three years. By my poor math, that gives him an average of 1,010 yards and 5.3 TDs per year. That would put him just behind Cooks last year, in 2014 ahead of everyone in yardage and second to Graham in TDs, and in 2013 second to Graham total. I'm not saying he's going to be amazing, especially at 35 years old, but to label him as "done for years now" seems rather inaccurate.

FWIW I don't see him even listed as a FA Wr. I'd bring back Colston. He is younger and has a SB ring.

I don't see the point ... you want to bring in a veteran guy, why not bring back Kevin Williams for one more season?? ...

I've been wanting the Saints to grab him all offseason. I hope it works out.
