Saints making strongest push for Anquan Boldin??? (1 Viewer)

Really who's our 4th WR? Who's our vet presence in that group?

789 yards last year from the 49's, who had one of the worst qb problems in the NFL last year.

vs Coleman - 454 yards from one of the best QB's in the game.

Who are all these young stud WR's that will get cut?

Boldin was their #1 WR whereas Coleman was 4th or 5th option at best here. Coleman just turned 24, Boldin is nearly 36. I would prefer to continue to develop Coleman if that is the choice.

I don't see the point ... you want to bring in a veteran guy, why not bring back Kevin Williams for one more season?? ...

Yeah, let's just compare defensive tackles to wide receivers because it makes sense.

We get that you hate Jenkins. What the hell does that have to do with bringing in a WR who many here have been looking to bring in for a few years now?

We can still develop Coleman with Boldin on the team. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Really wanted us to sign this guy to mentor our wr's and draft a guard or more defense instead of drafting Thomas in the 2nd....

If that's "done" I want to know what "undone" is. 800 yards from Kaepernick and Gabbert is not done. He's been known to keep in really good shape too, so I doubt he's fat and slow all of a sudden. He immediately replaces Colston's veteran leadership and productivity if he hasn't fallen off a cliff.

I'm not a fan of paying anything more than the vet min for this guy. It sounds like we will be paying more than that. Coleman will beat him out anyway.

Yeah Cooks, Snead, Thomas, Boldin is a bad thing.
Try again debbie downer.

It's a bad thing because four receivers cannot be on the field at one time and the person who will take the hit from this is Snead and he was already inconsistent last year with deep balls. Now Snead takes some snaps also away from Thomas in the slot. And then there's Coleman or Harris whoever stays.

Once again, volume issues abound.

Snead was inconsistent with deep balls because that isn't really part of his game. And you can absolutely have a 4 WR set. Not sure why you think there's a limit of three for some reason.

Saints receivers wearing wristbands devoted to Anquan Boldin - Niner Insider

From August 18, 2015

The Saints’ receivers are sick of 49ers’ receiver Anquan Boldin. So sick, they jokingly made up wrist bands with the acronym “WWAD” for “What would Anquan do.” This is in response to Saints receivers coach John Morton, who was Boldin’s position coach the last four seasons in San Francisco. Morton was so impressed with Boldin’s on-field and off-field approach, he constantly gave his players examples of what Boldin did. That’s when Saints receiver Joe Morgan made up wrist bands with “WWAD” embossed on them.
Boldin’s influence isn’t limited to New Orleans. Before coming to the 49ers, those around the Ravens thought Boldin was the real leader of the team, even more than linebacker Ray Lewis, who has since retired.
Boldin’s recommendation of Torrey Smith helped land Boldin’s former Ravens teammate in San Francisco with a five-year deal including $22 million guaranteed – a contract the 49ers rarely offer their own players. Part of the reason was so younger players could listen to Boldin-Smith conversations.

Boldin currently has 1009 catches, 13,195 yards, 74 TD's.

Last season with the 49ers he had 69 catches for 789 yards and 4 TD's

With Kaepernick and Gabbert throwing to him and basically no one else helping to draw the defenses' attention elsewhere his stat's were very close to Snead's and Watson's.

I think he could easily give us 800 yards and 5 TD's. Likely more.

Yeah, why would we ever want this guy on the team? Obviously a cancer and has nothing left in the tank.

There's no real downside to adding talent/veteran leadership going into camp. Anything can happen, so it's a way of hedging bets and boosting competition.

The roster and playing time will get sorted out.
