Saints Meeting “Extensively” With Hendon Hooker (3 Viewers)

We overdraft DBs already. I haven’t seen enough of the kid to say as of yet my opinion on him.
Which DBs did we overdraft? I’d say Adebo, Taylor, CGJG and Lattimore all either lived up to their draft position or in the case of the younger two, showed flashes to suggest they’re worth a flier in the 2nd round.

Was Taylor projected as a 2nd round guy last year?

My thing is…if a QB is worth a 3rd round pick, he’s worth the 29th pick.

QB is the one spot where there’s no middle ground. Not with salary. Not with value.

I don’t know if Hooker is or isn’t. Or Tanner McKee or anyone else in that second tier after the top 4 in this draft.

But I’m definitely not gonna complain if we take a QB at 29 if we view him as a potential starter.
I agree totally. The question I do have in general is whether we use that 29th or even the 40th on Hooker (assuming the scouts see him as a potential starter down the road) if we have already signed Carr to a sizeable contract! I am at this point leaning to not being afraid to use that premium pick to further deepen the QB room on the team where Hooker would not be pressured to starting early in his career.

That’s where I am with it. Take the shot. I didn’t realize just how few times we’ve taken a QB in round one in our history. Once. Lol

Start throwing at least a few high round darts else you’ll never hit.

Yeah, if we genuinely believe he’s *that guy,* then I’d have no problem paying big $ for Carr and spending the high pick.

Don’t worry Sean Payton will jump ahead of us and grab him, it’ll be the best pick Sean’s made in a few yrs plus he’s taking everything else the Saints has….

Hyatt is redundant with Shaheed and Olave. We need Tillman's size and someone to play the X who can be more than just a body.
Agree with the redundancy, just don’t think Tillman will be a third of what Hyatt will be. Also, our injuries are severe seemingly every year, so I don’t mind a little redundancy.

Pick #29 was a freebie pick that we got because of Sean Payton leaving. It would be poetic justice to take a QB at #29 and have him work out as our franchise QB for a decade, just to hear CSP whine about it for the next ten years would be worth the popcorn. ..... Yeah, if we had that pick,#29, we would have drafted him, I had him highly rated on my board.

If we sign Carr, not sure Hooker is the right fit for that situation and the best use of one of the high picks. The only reason to bring Carr in, for what he's going to cost, is if the team believes he's their QB for at least the next 4-5 years. Hooker will be 25 at the time of the draft and could conceivably be pushing 30 before the team tried to transition to him.

If the team gets Carr, I think it would make more sense to target a QB later in the draft as a developmental backup / insurance policy. If the team doesn't sign Carr, then I think Hooker is a player that is really intriguing.

Yeah, 1/3 of what Hyatt would be as a Y or Z is better than what we have as an X which is nothing. We've played over 2 seasons without a legit X with an offense that requires one. I do agree about the redundancy and have drafted Wyatt in mocks for that reason, but I also pick up Tillman, Hutchinson, Mingo, Wilson or Higgins to address the X.
